tis a good surname, as is the beer.
Myself, i would need allowances of ’ aswell as spaces and maybe specific slot just for the surname part for some of my characters.
since most of my Drenai are ra’Valir (of the sisters of Valeria) as their surname/familial name.
one of my humans would share a dwarf surname as she was raised by ironforge dwarves.
my night elf DH would need it as her name is missing the ’ if i remember correctly to pronounce it fully in Drow (it fitted lol)
i do miss even just spaces tho. even just one space allowed would work and im rather worried about whats going to happen with the mergers.
i mean, its bad enough on normal realms, to get a name sometimes.
imagine the hell if all the rp realms merge? who gets to keep their names and who gets kicked to the curb with a free rename?
(or when they say ‘merge’ they dont mean actualy smash them into one server but to join them so they share much more than cross realming?)
Doesn’t help when people hoard names on level 1s or even ik in some cases on the forums people have even been trying to sell names that they have just sitting on their account cause its a name with no accents, etc on it. Not even to take into consideration bots being in the game
and a good handful of these bots do have fairly creative names too.
I am a bit at fault when it comes to hoarding names, but that’s me being an altoholic. Most of them are roughly level 15-20, not level 1. Most of them are disfigured lore names. Honestly “Chronormi” is one of my better ones.
I am the proud owner of Valeera-Ragnaros though.

Guilty as charged…think this tends to happen a lot when a new Xpac or Allied Race is announced and peeps want to reserve a suitable name they like.
I have at least one name that’s unique across all servers. No weird characters either. “Penthat”. Now, it’s just a name and frankly it’s not the flashiest of names, but I like it.
I recently rolled a hunter project and was able to name her “Howitzer”. Which is a pretty cool name for a hunter IMO.
What I’m trying to say is that, yes, Legolas might be taken, but there’s plenty of combinations out there.
Me: cannot pick names such as Dawnrunner, Dusksinger, Tidesong.
Some random hunter I came across in Drustvar: has the name Sylvanas without any accents.
Truly, life is unfair.

I was lucky enough to get my Rogue’s name in Warlords of Draenor, which is also my real name.
But yes, I would also like to have surnames. Name combinations could be almost endless, and many could have the name they desire.
Another suggestion can be that names would be like everyone’s on Steam. Then all can choose a name they want, even if it’s used by somebody else. After all people in the real world share many first names with others, the same could happen with WoW.
A last suggestion is to simply name-purge much more often. Instead of every 2 years it could happen every year or half a year.
It is a hard balance when it comes to names. No one wants to come back after a short break from the game and find the names they had for over a decade are now gone and someone else has them.
For those who are unsure, the current system works like this.
“Character names on accounts that have been inactive for the past two expansions automatically become eligible to be used by other characters”
That will mean that shortly after the launch of the next Expansion there would be another round of names becoming available.
