I hate it too, almost as much as i hated the updated character models and animations back in WoD… just another thing to get used to i guess.
At least there are a lot of addons you can use for UI. If you don’t know about them check out curseforge or get ElvUI for a complete UI overhaul… mind you that it’s quite advanced and takes a long time to learn and understand it, but it is worth it!
I’ve been playing since WOW first went live (OK - actually day 2) and I’ve just logged in to see the monstrosity that is the new interface.
WOW no longer looks like WOW and the default setup fills half the screen.
Overall I would say that the new interface looks amateur and a lot like all the addons already available. It seems to be styled more as a SF game interface than a fantasy game. Even the griffins bracketing the main buttons look like crude cartoons.
On opening the game after the patch I found myself asking whether I could be bothered - or I should just cancel my subscription.
Introducing options to allow flexibility is good, completely changing the interface for the sake of it is just going to alienate players. There should, at least be a setting that allows you to return to the old interface.
There have been minor tweaks to the interface over the years, some were good, others annoying. This is pure vandalism.
Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.
Just wondering why the Action Bar 1 is upside down/back to front when I log in ?? Every single time.
So which child designed this Blizzard - didnt know 1 starts at the end of the box of 3 if you use horizontal
Yeah agree. I have been using the default UI as it has been clean enough and it hasn’t required any adjusting. I want to play the game, not spend hours manually setting all the bars to their proper locations. One additional reason why I dont like of these new UI elements is that they dont blend into the game well enough. They dont have a fantasy element and instead feel like a pop up ads on the screen blocking the game view. The map is ugly AF and the placement of the group finder eye doesn’t make any sense for me. Previously I could glance the minimap for objective and see that I am in a que.
If you guys have any addons / importable settings which resemble the old UI, let me have them. Willing to pick up any fantasy element UI such as old D3 UI had as well.
To everyone claiming you could one-time set up the UI for all chars in 5 mins: I don’t know if you actually do anything besides standing around in rp groups glancing at the Azerothian sky all day but you sure as hell have low demands and dedication to your spell bar set up…
The statement that one UI set up would work for all characters also is hot garbage. Pet bar for hunter and druid appearance bar for example aren’t the same and will cause empty or overlapped elements for one character as soon as you move / exchange them in a shared set up.
Talking about overlapping… Opened bags hardcore interfere with the side bars on my end. Same goes for profession windows. Special ability bar for anima powers in Sanctum of Domination vanishes behind the side bar as well and you can’t move it at all. I still can’t find a way to harmonically integrate the chat frame either since you can’t resize it. There is a whole lot of empty space in the bottom left of my screen now because I had to move the chat up enough in order to be able to read it. But sure, the new UI works “perfectly fine”…
Current people at helm are not brought up by traditional ways and didn’t see or experience 80s and 90s. Atleast storytelling and art style was good. Look at Aliens. Can you deliver such a story, action, character build up and tension in current movies? Never going to happen. It will be 50% of running and flying through the air and 50% CGI. And people who see it does not have any opinion what is good and what is bad.
Currently, this is how I managed to make it look. Not perfect, but managing so far. Still want to scale down the minimap without scaling all of my UI at the same time. With Action bar 6 enabled, it will be placed in that empty spot on the right.
This on so many levels is what I thought when I logged in.
I too am a wow vet and as you said, the new UI is amateur and has nothing about it that says"WoW", it looks like one of the devs had set one of their kids a task to design it.
I also don’t like the login music, apart from the traditional wow melody ( That is totally bland and lifeless in this version with no booming drums ) it just sounds rushed and not on par with past iterations of said theme
I guess I’m just being an old grumpy man and I should get with the times, but they shouldn’t have touched what wasn’t broken.
New UI discourages me from playing. I’ve been playing for 14 years and now blizz is taking away the environment I’m used to. I only have it in my mind and familiar.
Do I really need to look for an addon that will show the Classic UI?
