Are you daft? I’m not asking for sharded servers, I’m asking them to spin up 10 servers directly instead of pushing the queue problem forward.
Server merges was a real thing back in the day as well.
Spin up an excessive amount of servers to handle the rush, then merge them when hype is going down, that also lets friends join the same servers instead of opening 1 new server, having it flooded and locking the rest of the friend squad out forcing them to move to the next server to dodge the queues…

Will Blizzard add character transfers down the line? I’m fine with playing on these new servers, but I don’t want to play on a dead server 6 months from now.
they mentioned it as a longterm fix, which means in 6months

Great JOB BLIZZARD> Another failure. Adding servers are BLOODDDY LAST MINUTE On Launch day??? Wow. Who is the think tank at BLIZZ? Braindead totally. Now that I created my named toon on a server after server you decide to add more servers and i stuck for 3 hours to join server where i created chars. Now i can’t create chars with my chosen name. FAIL FAIL FAIL.
With how messed up it is now you may need to transfer multiple times anyway. They’ve created a cascading effect of splitting communities up and forcing re-rolls.

Act faster and maybe there will be enough servers before Christmas.
This is exactly what they should have done all along - and without layering imo.
It solves all issues, keeps people informed and free to decide, players can stay together more easily, etc.

Fact ist,
if they merge servers, people lose their names, if they connect them, then we have no more Vanilla experience with server only communities.
As I said, BFA is there, maybe its just more to your liking than Vanilla.

Problem is, blizz saying long term can mean a year or more. I took them 2 years to get classic up, when some swedish neets in their mothers basement ran Nostalrius

Rather lose my name than play on a dead server. It boggles my mind how irrational people are when it comes to the name of a pixelated character, which you can twist and turn endlessly until you hit a free combination.
I’d gladly hop on a new server and then later rename my character with one dot or slash or dash over one of its letters.
