Next gen mmo will be in VR

Hi everyone. Just thought id let you all know that the meta quest 3 headset is really cheap right now. I got mine on a downpayment plan since im poor  And the experience has been unreal… Literally. I highly recommend everyone to at least try vr if you get the chance. The youtube videos really don’t do it justice compared to experiencing it your self.

But having played a little my self lately. I have been thinking… As amazing as this is… Why hasn’t VR taken more over? Why hasn’t this become the next big thing?

I think the answer to that is simply because. VR is just too unavailable to people… I mean heck I’ve wanted a headset since the first occulus rift came out. And I didn’t get one until now.

I think as VR advances and becomes more common place… And more affordable to people. I think vr will be the next big gaming platform people choose to experience their games.

And I think the next big MMO that will challenge wow will happen in that future.
Where VR is more accessible too people and common place. The next gen big wow mmo will be a VR mmo.

You have successfully read trough a full Skullfox take. A thousand fox thank you’s for your time.

Because in general its inaccessible, clunky, makes some people dizzy.

I won’t be playing another MMORPG after WoW till Deepdive VR becomes a thing, if it ever happens.

Who knows, might play one when I’m 80 and players calling me a slow noob [due to arthritis]. :joy:

There is already a VR MMO, it’s called Zenith: The Last City

when i was in my 20s and sword art online was popular, i was told we were getting VR mmo super soon. i did say that no way we are that advance but nooOooooOo she said im stupid and it will come soon just i wait c.c

Will be the first game I check out now. Thanks Keento o7 So far I’ve just been exploring VR chat with Niko  And seen VR videos and cinema’s.

But I still believe that once players get more VR and it becomes more available to people. You wont want to experience games any other way.

This is true… It is very expensive and its allot to get into at first. It needs to become more common and accessible to people… But It is surprisingly not as clunky as you think. But I may be speaking too prematurely. After all i’ve just played some simple games and vr chat so far. But I got used to the controls pretty fast.

Gonna try the new batman VR game soon. I hear its amazing.

Also the dizzy feeling or the motion sickness can be ‘‘trained’’ away I was told. I have definitely felt it too.

In vr chat there are worlds for example that lets you train your motion sickness. I’ve been told people no longer feel motion sickness after a while using VR

VR is quite accessible these days. In fact I’d argue more accessible than a regular PC for gaming.

Get a Quest 3. Sure, it can be hooked up to a PC and that’s great and all that, but it also works alone!

VR isn’t even that you get dizzy, either. The problem is what happens when you try to move!

VR movement is notoriously clunky. On the one hand you can do the teleporting, which is unimmersive. On the other hand, you can do the panning, but that makes the ground feel like it’s skating under your feet, which makes you dizzy. The last option is to buy a treadmill, but THAT is inaccessible.

Unfortunately this is a problem that has to be solved when playing an MMO. There’s no way around it.

Btw WoW works in VR. The UI already supports full 3D, too. It’s a pretty wild experience.

It’s because they added it for 3D screens back in Wrath, and it still works even though I don’t think anybody uses it.

Ever wondered what “strata” and “depth” were for? Well there you go. In addition to deciding which frame goes above the other in 2D, it also decides how far into the view the UI is in 3D.

I played around with this, and I can proudly say that my custom UI is fully 3D compatible! xD It looks great.

oh this actually reminded me of what i watched yesterday on youtube called: The good, The bad, And the truly ugly of VRChat.

its all fun and games, but then you get the dark side of VR gaming. is it even wise to have an MMO VR?

Games I highly recommend on VR, especially the Quest:

  • Beat Saber (with mods and streaming from PC)
  • Superhot
  • Moss I and II
  • Until you fall
  • I am Cat
  • Waltz of the Wizard

It is way more accsessible than it’s ever been before. But I think the conception people still have is the same one the people have had since it came out back in 2016. That a VR headset will cost you the same as a brand new pc. Witch just isn’t the case anymore. Also if your credit is good! You can do like me and chose a downpayment plan instead :+1:

When I play VR chat I use the right controller joystick to move forward or backpwards. and my left joystick to turn. I use my headset too look around. Couldn’t or doesn’t other games work the same way?

My vr buddy wants this so bad. But we have no idea where to look or where too start. Can you give us a pointer Ishayo? >< Experiencing wow in VR would be the dream.

Thank you keento:3 Do you also have VR? Can I add you in vr chat or something?

Ethical questions. Now we are going places xD But too be fair… How would VR mmo be different ethically compared to current mmo games? I have heard about the dark sides of VR chat as well. But aren’t the same things happening in wow as well?

I have a Quest 2, and I have VRChat.
Poke me on Discord and I’ll share my account with you.

This is what makes me dizzy.

I also tried Skyrim and it was horrific. Same reason.

with VR you would be able to become a filian (a vtuber in full VR body suit) and taking part in drinking games n stuff inside the MMO. its as if you are really there with your drinking buddies n stuff.

whereas on WoW its all typing. i think the VR would have more of a community feel to it, physically and psychologically. (big words i know x.x)

Is it cheaper than a PC? Yes. but your also getting significantly less than what a PC offers and thats the issue. Most people don’t want to invest in what people opinion is still a gimmick.

The day we get a deepdive experience is the day it becomes something everybody would want.

Honestly not a comparison as VR games just play different and bring a completely different experience. And if you’re playing VR optimized games such as “The Climb” for example, the graphics are absolutely gorgeous.

And if you only care about having good graphics, but want the VR experience, you stream from your PC, not play natively on the device.

Thank you Keento and Ishayo I will look into these.

I am not too tech savy on this so don’t take what I am about to say like it comes from someone with a clue here…

But apperently something new has arrived now called a HDMI link cable? Supposedly its supposed to give your headset PCVR hdmi graphics trough your pc.

Hmm your right though… This is true… So do you think we’re opening a pandoras box if MMO VR became the next big thing?

I feel like you’re missing the point. VR has come a long way but it has long way to go before its taken seriously by the masses.

Graphics aren’t the problem, its the controls most people dont like. Also if youre gonna say “Hook it up to the PC” then it just becomes another controller that you never use.

No, I feel the point is simply not a fair comparison to begin with.
You’re basically asking a mobile phone to render the same quality of a game as a dedicated gaming PC. That’s never going to happen until hardware reaches the point that an entire RTX 3060 can be crammed into a mobile device and not melt the casing.

If you want to play VR with the expectation of having realistic graphics, ray tracing or 4k HDR graphics, it won’t happen. You render and stream from your PC for those requirements, the main reason why all VR Headsets pretty much support steam integration at this point.
