Nightborne lore, additional sources

So I’ve taken a rekindled interest to my mage. Was wondering if there are any books, or any kind of sources at all outside of the game that offer more exploration into the lore? (As i’ve cleared Surumar).

They’re probably my favourite race, but I can’t seem to find much on them?

Not really. There is one comic that was added in legion as introduction how Thalyssra was kicked out of Suramar. And thats a good thing. WoW in general has already outsourced too much upon novel writers. Everything else is ingame.

That seems like a shame. Not about the novel thing, but the sparse lore on them in general. They seem so established with such a wealth of characters to draw from.

It gives me some hope that Thalyssra has a (minor) presence in the starting phase of BFA, it shows that she’s still thought about and, given her quote just before her teleport exit, makes me think she’ll be used again at some point this expansion. Fingered crossed

Yep, I hope that when she will betray Sylvanas Horde (like Arcanist Valtrois), after she has betrayed the Alliance, and after she has betrayed Elisenda, she will go back to the Alliance instead of Saurfang’s Horde.

War of the Ancients, and Chronicles volume 1 - nightborne are a specific group of night elves, the other half of the Suramar night elves that stayed in the city instead of march on Zin’Azshari.

Pre-sundering night elf lore and in-game 7.0/1 is all you really have.

It’s like void elf lore, for most of void elf lore you need high/blood elf lore, the point where the thalassians become void elves is all told in game.

I like nightborne too. I don’t like that so many are on the horde, but i like how they, turned things around like the rest of the night elves who fought Queen Azshara, even if it was 10k years later.

Nightborne, Farondis & Shen’dralar highborne are 3 specific groups of post -sundering night elves who are distinguished from the Long vigil night elves by continuing to use arcane magic and the kaldorei culture of the era.

It is worth noting that by the end of legion, all these groups have had a similar humbling experience as the darnassian elves did after the sundering. In theory they should in character be arcane versions of the darnassian night elves. Similar character, similar nobility, similar desire for good, they are in contrast to the conceited Azshara led highborne, who are still grossly arrogant as ever, like the nightborne in the city before the nightfallen rebellion overthrow.

You an’t betray a faction you never were part of in the first place. Also forum RP, wrong place mate.

Blizzard has stated (finally, took long enough) that Thaylssra and the Nightborne betrayed the Alliance. And betrayal can happen even if you are not in the same faction.

Also it isn’t forum RP to call a race to what they actually are. Just like how I call you Blood Elves crack-headed thugs XD.

Lol what? If you aren’t part of a faction you can’t betray a faction. Stop making headcanons without linking sources.

Ah there it is again. The infamous Alliance centered “Iamsomuchbetterthanyoulol” attitude. Nice to see when prejudice getÄs confirmation.

This was an official Blizzard statement. They spoke about the war and said that the Nightborne turned their backs on the Alliance.

You can betray a faction even if you are not apart of said faction. You do have to be in it for a betrayal to happen.

And Blizzard has said this, I know this because someone linked the source in one of the many Nightborne threads we had a couple of months ago. And I don’t really have willpower or time to find it if you are instantly going to jump to the conclusion of “headcanon”.

Perhaps someone else can back me up on that, or you just have to take my word as I have no reason to lie about it.

Well, we are better.

Edit : Cheers Araphant <3

I would love to see the Interview that went along with this, aka where this took place. Is it on Youtube? And Turning their backs on them means betrayal now? They chose a side. Just like the Lightforged did. And you don’t see us calling them traitors do you?

I really CBA to find it, it was an announcement for something BFA related, like, the flames of war are fanning, etc, bla bla bla.

I’m already regretting my choice tbh. No offense. It seems things got worse with Blizzard’s target painting on the Horde narrative.

The Lightforged are completely different.

They are Draenei, they rejoined their kin in society. They probably still have friends and family from the pre-Burning Legion days. Why would they join the Horde over their family, friends and kin exactly? Especially after what the Horde did to them on Draenor?

And it holds more merit because they didn’t start the war, you can make the argument that they just settled down and you forced them to become a full member by your increasing tensions and Sylvanas’s push for a war and are now forced to fight for survival.

After everything the Night Elves (both Alliance and neutral did), the High Elves and the Alliance in general did. After what Thaylssra promised she’d do such as “repaying their debts of the people who saved them” and “not becoming conquers” they have become exactly that. And Tyrande’s fears of Thalyssra have only since been coming true as they still support the genocidal war campaign of the Horde and not declaring neutrality in it.

I call that betrayal easily. Going back on your word, killing the main people what helped you (which are also distant kin) and so on.

I am absolutely gonna read through twenty Blizzard announcements to provide your most exalted Majesty with a source for something which is relatively obvious.

They killed some demons, called Thalyssra the next Kaldorei H.i.tler comparison towards Azshara and left the place. That’s it. I won’t blame Thalyssra for not working her butt towards alliance membership when they sideeye you either ways. It was just logical trying to contact the next logical choice(Aka Blood Elves) instead.
