If there’s actual in game references to it then why not. The game is a bit too tight on what race can be what class when it’s already shown that some races can do holy stuff.
Like priest gnomes, but for some reason that ability to do holy+light doesn’t extend to doing it as a pally. Makes no sense to me really.
Did they act like Paladins? Or were they just shiny Warriors? Also; Well of Eternity dungeon - so around, what, 10,000 years ago? Also as part of the Highborne rather than Night Elves? Those same Night Elves who would end up living a more druidistic lifestyle with the worship of the wilds and Elune much different to that of the Earthmother, Loa or the Light?
Yes it is, because those are the only two Paladin Night Elves.
Oh look! Troll Knights that actually use Paladin-like abilities! And woah, they actually developed this without having to crowbar anything in! Amazing!
Because of the noble nature of Tauren, and the noble/regal nature of Zandalari, their culture would feasibly form a Paladin-like cadre of warriors.
Culturally, Night Elves don’t function like that. How would they make more sense? Just because they get emo and angry with the moon doesn’t make them Paladins!
Actually there’s already been a thread about this and we found out that Tauren are the best Paladins. Everything else is better than Humans so at least youve still got something!
Having Faith and being the embodiment of your diety’s Holy Might can be two different things. One has you praying to your God to do something while the other has your God give you that power to do it yourself.
Priest is an umbrella class that Blizzard use just to homogenise all the different faiths and denominations in WoW. A Troll doesnt worship the same way or the same thing as a Gnome or a Blood Elf.
Paladins are no different (edit: two sentenses there in my head, sorry! ) Its not whether or not a race can be a Paladin, its if they can be something like a Paladin. Tauren have reason to be but Night Elves would not, simply because of their cultural disposition.
It would be so much cooler if Priests, Paladins and even the remaining Druids had more racial animations (and maybe even some subtle ability name changes) to make things clearer.
That is literally what Night Elf mages are though.
Why would mages be okay but paladins not?
And why do you contradict yourself - you say it can’t happen just because some npc uses the same style of abilities but then praise how “developed without crowbaring” it is.
Fun fact - should you ask pretty much anyone what they think about tauren paladin before the Cata teaser, they would just laugh at how stupid it is.
BUT Blizz whipped up some story to cover their gameplay decision, and from hence forth, tauren paladins “make sense and are totally legit”.
The only deciding factor is whether they want to make it happen or not.
If yes, they will “make it make sense”. If not, then simply they don’t…
Point is, you arguing how this and that cannot happen because that and this holds absolutely no value in the end.
Because mastering magic is different from having the cultural mindset to be imbued with the noble might of your diety and not just some vengeful angry emo Night Warrior.
I am not contradicting myself. Zandalari Prelates displayed themselves in MoP using Paladin-like abilities. In BFA, we got a blank canvas for exploring these Prelates with Zandalar being a new explorable continent. Prelates are not crowbarred in because they are not having to shove aside existing stuff to make it work.
Being “Paladin-like” doesn’t require being Human. Look at the Draenei, who worshipped the Light independently of Humans well before coming to Azeroth. Look at the Dwarves, who adopted the Faith too. Paladins are just Light-worshipping versions of the archetype class. It’s easier to group them all together for gameplay purposes.
Tauren are noble despite being tribal. Their worship of the Sun as part of the Earthmother gives them their own path towards having something similar to a Paladin; Sunwalkers.
Blizzard can and have screwed over the Lore before, but at least the current Paladins have reason for being Paladins. Even the Tauren were valid nominations and just needed a push. What you are saying is the case for Night Elves is to just hope that Blizzard forgets everything and just gets rid of all the Lore altogether.
Great then! Let’s remove all the story from WoW altogether and ruin the main reason we all fell in love with the game!
Wouldn’t need to be abilities though, yes, I would love to see Paladin and Priest Racials come back! But even just naming some abilities slightly differently, and giving different Wings animatins would work!
IMO, Alliance should get unique Paladin customization options for each Paladin race like spell colours etc since they are owner of the Paladin class and Horde should have that privelege for Shaman class since Shamans came from the Horde side.
It would bring that seperate faction feeling we used to have in Classic. Both sides having both classes in the exact same look is not feeling good.
to be precise i dont like the this race can only be in this faction and only do that class really stupid yeah it makes sense with demon hunters but why cant perhaps my nightborne run over to the alliance to life with her friends and not with the ppl that treat her awfully and if she find guidance in the light not eventually become a paladin ?
yeah wow isnt like that but if ur ok with sun paladins than moon paladins should also be ok
Even if they’re angry with the moon or “emo”, etc, they could still be Paladins. We’ve had “emo”/vengeful Paladins before and we’ve had Paladins who bind the light to their will. Besides Night Warrior could literally be a Paladin if you think about it. Night Warrior is an avatar of Elune. Paladin is an avatar of the Light.
Not to mention that Night elves are allied with THE Paladin races. I’m talking Lightforged Draenei. Regular Draenei. Humans. Name a more iconic races than these 3 for Paladin. So what are the chance that they could’ve learned from their allies? I mean that certainly makes more sense than suddenly "oh we’re Druids but we’re sun Druids, that makes us Paladins right? ".
Shamans already have their totems, and kn the end they are all throwing the same elements at people.
Ankmations should be Race specific for both Factions, but what about reintroducing Faction specific abilities again? If they didnt screw up flow that is. Balance might be tough but manageable!
You can’t use the Implausibility of tauren Paladins to argue for night elf Paladins. “well tauren can be Paladins, and that makes no sense!” is not an argument as to why night elf can be Paladins.
Point is nelf culture has changed a lot since highborne times. At that time a conception of Paladins would have been plausible as a form of organised religious military (although the priestesses of the moon typically occupied such a role anyway).
The other argument is that they could have learned it from their allies. Using this argument, why can’t other races be demon hunters, or why can’t nelf teach humans to be druids. Clearly it requires something more than just being in proximity to allies who can.
Also, there’s the whole “nelf having their established ancient druidic culture”. I predict a lot of nelf fans would be upset if yet again, their apparently established, experienced views of the world are supplanted in favour of young races once again “having something to teach them”. It’s bad enough shandris feathermoon fangirled over varian wrynn despite having fought easily 20 times more battles than him against far more nefarious foes. Doubling down in this and having nelf “come to be Paladins” because they think the “human way” is worthier than their own just hammers this point even further.
Tauren are a stretch (largely done for game balance reasons, they were the best of poor fits horde side) but that doesn’t mean we should normalise stretches. Else gief pandaren demon hunters and druids and tauren mages etc.
It’s something i had hopes for would show up after Legion at least after the tease and something i would say would not be to hard to add into the game.
Id race-change my current pala or make a new one if nelf could play them that’s for sure
