There are still characters who are benevolent in WoW as well, such as Velen. It’s been shown recently even that without Velen’s guidance the Draenei people end up becoming zealots.
The debate isn’t whether every character is good or evil or not. It’s about the fact that WoW currently has no force of good or struggle between a clear force of good or evil. Every good act is “only” individual, instead of aspiring to something beyond oneself, and ultimately, has no bearing on your judgement in the end.
Brings up a page talking about various Gods
No mention of Christianity being core of the setting.
All the recent evils have been objective evils, as for having good overcome it, I guess if your character is good that still happens?
They probably kept it open for the sake of that immersion, evil was beaten by whatever you consider your character to be
God was said to have been revered by the Clerics of Northshire during the First War. The Abbot of Northshire Abbey believed that the archangels took up swords of light to defend the heavens and that God is able to see in an all-encompassing fashion. He sees the world with extreme clarity, and only a fraction of the power would blind a human. During the Second War, churches sang "Deo Gratias" (Deo Gratias), Latin for “Thanks [be] to God”. Even after the Second War a Knight of the Silver Hand called Duncan Senturus believed in a higher power that could choose paths for people, and believed evil actions were ungodly.
All very biblical God.
Which again, is outdated lore from over 30 years ago. When the franchise was unoriginal and quite bad.
Not canon anymore.
This hasn’t been declared as non canon.
It has in the since that all things referenced stopped exisiting & hasn’t been mentioned ever again for 30 YEARS or expanded upon to other things.
But I know you’re a bad faith actor from previous times Pullo, so it’s not worth going into more with you.
Not being expanded upon doesn’t affirm it’s not canon. Otherwise there are quite a few things that would be.
If wows influenced by any religion it’s American new agey neo paganism tbh. Entirely vibes and “the spirits” based religion.
God hasn’t been a thing in this game since forever. It’s not mentioned in any of the lore books, nor in-game afaik
Also your entire copy/paste from the wiki ends with a Citation needed
Edit: Infact, none of it is cited with sources at all as far as I can see? All the links are either broken or lead to non-existant pages that have since been removed.
There’s a vast difference between having some character back in 1994 briefly mention Heaven & quoting Latin in a very uninspired way & then NEVER mentioned again whatsoever for the next 30+ years, compared to some things not getting a spotlight for the past 2 years but is still referenced.
Which in a way shows how Blizzard twisted even a force as benevolent and good as Light to suit the “everything is morally gray” (at least, since I´d argue that with how Blizzard portrays cosmic forces, they are outright evil in how they want to twist everything to their image with no regards for others) to the point where Velen is the only thing standing between naaru taking over draenei society and turning them into genocidal zealots.
And possibly turning AU Draenor into even more of a lifeless desolation than MU Outland is.
The god theory is also in the list of retcons on Wowpedia.
Holy Light and God
In the description of the Warcraft I units, the Clerics of Northshire are described as worshippers of God, though whether or not this referred to a specific deity within a pantheon or a single deity is not known. This is followed in some of the later sources, such as Warcraft II (“Deo Gratias”, Latin for “Thanks be to God”) and Day of the Dragon.
“…clearly it was chosen by a higher power that your paths would lead you to us.” [11]
By the time of Warcraft III, they are shown as followers of the Holy Light, which is described as a philosophy that does not follow any particular theology, although a reference to a single all powerful god-like being creating the universe is mentioned in the manual and angels appear during resurrection spells. It is unknown as to whether or not the individuals worship this deity.
[Iblis, Blade of the Fallen Seraph], seems to be a reference to a fallen angel as well.
Spirit Healers and Spirits of Redemption have the form of angelic beings as well, though the former have been established as Val’kyr.
In the preview information released regarding the draenei race for the Burning Crusade expansion, the naaru were referenced as “a race of sapient energy beings bent on stopping the Burning Crusade” and that they “blessed the draenei with Light-given knowledge and power”. The naaru may explain the origin of the Holy Light or at least demonstrate that the Holy Light is an interplanetary force not restricted only to the world of Azeroth. Additionally, it’s known that the naaru are also a source of Holy Light power, as blood elves have found a way of draining a naaru of its powers, in order to wield divine powers as Blood Knights.
Additionally, according to Warcraft III’s manual, one legend states that the creation of the universe was from a single all powerful entity. The concept of God likely originated from this legend. See, Creation Myth.
Additionally, Alliance Player’s Guide tends to switch between the points of view that the Light seems to be a sapient entity of some kind; while it may not be an individual it may be a force. But it says little is known as the philosophies have been changing over the years especially since many of the original books discussing the Holy Light were destroyed during the various wars, especially during the third war.
True, you make a very good point there. ASoIaF definetly does have good characters as well. Personally found Ned to be one of my favourites, shame he had to go so early. Sam is a good second, guy who overcomes obstacles despite the odds being stacked against him.
Are you talking about AD roleplayers here, out of curiosity, or just writers in general?
Didn’t Mechagon try it only once? If there was a second time, I missed it
Or just plain dumb, often being duped into helping the evil side ( Abercrombie in Duskwood, Teron Gorefiend in TBC, Drakuru during WotlK come to mind).
Edit: And I forgot that troll in Tanaris who makes you inadvertendly summon Hakkar.
“But swords and church is in the words, that means it’s Christianity. ME NOT UNDERSTAND!”
Writers in general (I didn´t even think of AD RPers actually, but I guess it applies to us too).
no, it’s just Catholicism
; ^ )
Mechagon tried it and then the Amathet tried again, claiming that the Tol’vir were traitors to the Titans for not enacting their plans.
The citations are there. Some might have links taken down from old websites. But you can look those up in your own research I am sure.
God is referenced by “Shaky” Phillipe in the Cataclysm and Barton Trask references a bible of some sort by speaking of biblical:

“Barton Trask says: Were he still alive to avenge himself, would have no doubt ordered a retaliatory massacre of biblical proportions.”
I recall they call Dalaran a ‘Mecca’ of magic at one point. So there is Christian and even Islamic inspiration in WoW’s religion, especially among Humanity.
This isn’t a retcon page, it’s speculated theory page as per the header:
‘This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.’
It’s perfectly reasonable for humans, especially from Stormwind, believing in a God of Abrahamic style divine creator in the lore.
