Norse Mythology Names Not Allowed?

There are also mail addons too that will work if they are on your friends list.

As I’ve said, there’s ways to solve that issue, I am well aware.

Don’t worry. I’m not hurt. You’re free to have crappy standards.

I’m glad you’re not hurt. I dislike hurting people.

That being said, I find your aggression unwarranted, which makes me believe you’re actually hurt, but mask it by insulting my opinion.

I like the name Ângel - the altcode brings a halo to the name… it’s magical :unicorn:

Not sure if it’s allowed, but you can try to change one of the a in Sinmara to cyrillic a - it looks exactly the same.

I did not assault you, you’re mistaken. I’m just quietly commenting on your ideas of what sounds stupid (to you).

Just an advice: don’t ever tell any russian they sound or look stupid because you don’t understand that cyrillic is their native alphabet and roman alphabet is actually foreign to them.

Sure you didn’t. And sure you’re not hurt. Again, I’m genuinely sorry for hurting your feelings, it was never my intention.

Inherently different from intentionally using alt codes that aren’t part of your language to use a name that’s taken already.

I’m not hurt. I’m just somehow amused and tired at the same time.

How ?

Ãnna… Oh, no :frowning:
You have ~ over you A, Ãnna…
You are abomination!
Ignored forever! I dont want contact with impure character names!

You don’t need to argue about that, you won’t convince anybody anyway. It’s alright to be hurt by comments and it’s alright to point out that you are. It’s not alright to start insulting others due to yourself being hurt, though. That’s a lesson you should learn for your life.

Simple, one is using language, the other isn’t. And honestly, using original norse names is fine by me as well, since they’re obviously a language. They still look silly.

Using ß as B or äöü as aou only to circumvent a name already being taken however not only shows lack of creativity, it’s (or was, given the option of copy character name since a few patches) also, as I’ve already given an example a few posts before, quite rude towards people who need to interact with your characters name but can’t write it (e.g. weak auras, exorcus raid note).

For russians, playing on a russian server, or germans playing on a german server, it’s simply different because their communities easily write special characters that other people can’t.

I have never been alt code shamed before… thanks for helping me check that off my life list!

but… why? it is quite cool : ( the least he shouldn’t have cared, but it is unbeliavable how low some humans are and then wonder why the world is as bad…
that said, my name should also be flame-worthy due to a certain vice… but gl with that ;d

encoding gonna say, ??? orrrrr is it fixed :?

Honestly, I hated it because back then “Copy character name” wasn’t a thing and we were using weak auras that were using exorcus raid notes that were using character names to send data to their weak auras, which means I had to tell them to copy their character name into teamspeak, from which I’ve copied it into our raid note. It was simply bothersome, which is why I disliked their name.

It obviously is no excuse for bullying, let’s be real, but people often are simply awful and while I’m no fan of victim shaming, I simply want to say that adding an overabundance of special characters into your name will sometimes get people to make fun of you.

Also the “quite cool” part is obviously an opinion, which some people will agree with, while others disagree with it. That’s one of the beauties about humans, that opinions are inherently different.

Just to be clear. I did not insult you. Unless you consider that saying you have crappy standards is an insult.
You could have told me you like twilight and I would have told you you have crappy standards, and it would still not have been an insult.
So, why are you triggered ? Are you hurt ?

And that sounds quite arbitrary to me. For instance, Grobluk is not a word that you can find in the dictionary, and has never been used for a real name either.
So, by your logic, it must sound stupid aswell. Right ?
Or is it just that you have a problem with non-english characters ? In that case, “Hervé” must sound stupid aswell, right ?

My point is that Þýri may sound/look stupid to you, because you’re not icelandic nor used to icelandic alphabet. But to icelandic people and people used to these characters Þýri is perfectly fine.
However, if you said to an icelandic or anyone used to these characters that Þ sound stupid, he’d be baffled. Imagine that someone who don’t use roman alphabet (japanese, chinese, arabic, hindi, etc…) said to you that the character “a” sounds stupid and when asked “why does it sound stupid to you” the only answer you’d get is : “they are fine, since they’re obviously a language. They still look silly”.
So what ? They look silly because… ??? :insert confused meme here:

I hope you understand it a little better now.

So it’s not stupid, it’s inconvenient. Sounds like you’re just lazy and attempt to hide your laziness behind weird argument that does not make a lot of sense.

No it isn’t. Ø is ø, o is o. Completely different characters in pronounciation and usage.

You took an extreme example and the guildmates doing that are rather dumb.

Some top arena players have weird names and I doubt they’re being bullied.

I often use accents on some letters or the ø to get through the character creation because 99% of the names are freaking taken by now.

Blizzard should just let us select our names and if someone whispers make it use out Bnet ID as in other games.

it is cool by being original, looking well, in making sense and by its sophistication… and several other things

by refusing these traits, one proves to have a certain chara i would criticise and call “dead”

and all of this is ruled by logic, rather than emotional dislike

even though someone vocal may shout it loud… that is his decision right? :р if one wants to be a sheep, feel free to come in shrine so i can make it complete

So Im not Kaloyan but Kaluuyan ;/

To be honest, a bit. I find calling my standards crappy unwarranted and insulting, as I’ve said before.

Unwarranted insults are always hurtful to an extent. But that’s just me being able to acknowledge when certain comments are hurtful, or at the very least meant to be hurtful.

I mean what warranted the “crappy”? It would’ve been an entirely fine statement without said word, but you decided to use it anyway.

What was your intention behind it, if not to insult my opinion?

I’m sure to some people it does. And that’s fine by me, I like it. I feel like it’s fitting for a Goblin and I’ve used it ever since MoP.

I would like Herve a lot more. I have a general dislike towards special characters. Not enough to kick, bully or insult people obviously, but I’ve had bothersome and bad experiences with them which made me dislike them.

Wholeheartedly agree. It is only to me. I can’t speak for the universe or humanity itself, so everything I say is subjective. If you believe my statements to be objective, let me correct you right here and now when I say:

Everything I say is is purely subjective. I don’t reflect more than myself in any way, shape or form, unless specifically stated otherwise.

I’m not saying “everybody who uses character X (X being any character, rather than the character X here) looks stupid”. If you understood my statement that way, you simply misunderstood.

I’m saying if you’re using special characters to use an already taken character name, some people will make fun of you as well as you’re making yourself look stupid to people.

I mean imagine ダリariウス. Doesn’t quite fit now, does it?

I guess if we’re barreling it down to a singular sentence, they look silly because they’re mixing languages that aren’t supposed to mix.

Oh yes, it’s both, I guess. I’m not hiding my laziness, I’m very obviously not very keen on doing more work than I already do. I mean if somebody told you to, rather than write the letter “O”, you’d have to write the letter “Ö” in all of your sentences, you wouldn’t be very keen on that either, or would you not mind?

I agree.

I’m sure some people would make fun off their names. I mean in starcraft barcode names (mixes of |, a small L and a large I, e.g. |IllIIIl|lllIIIlIlI||IIll) were being used by both hackers as well as regular people and no matter their rank, people made fun off them.

Or you know you’re just not very creative regarding character names. There’s 26 letters that aren’t considered special characters. I’m sure there’s a combination of them that isn’t taken and that can be easily phonetically pronounced that isn’t taken.

That being said, not being creative regarding character names is completly fine, most of my characters use very similar names. (Grobluk, Krobluk, Groblug, Krobluk)

I disagree. Seems tedious to me.

I disagree about the looking well part. I like the original part by being a pun between Owl and Oldspice. But it looks like vomit, to me.

How so? Care to elaborate?
