My brother in christ, it do be a bit of a hyperfixation
Why do you keep saying “My brother in christ”
Makes you sound like a pleb
my pleb in dirt
I’m confused. I didn’t invite a Bot, I invited a Pandaren character called “Myejin”, who just so happened to be you.
Yes, there was a lot of gripe in the discord server regarding Tian and Pandaria in general being degraded to a party backdrp. But it was you who decided to talk about how we are “foaming” that the whole server doesn’t play Pandaren and how we “advocated ethnostates” ???
That’s not including how you then left that server after an argument with an individual (who TBH, we can all agree was not a pleasant person) and referred to the community as toxic.
Edit: My bad, I thought you were referring to yourself as the “Bot” because you’re a Mechagnome…
The event manager bot was in the server, the server was at the very least hooked up to an announcement channel for it.
I left the server because someone was thoroughly toxic toward me and the general attitude from the officer/mod/staff member I contacted regarding it was mainly just a shrug.
Though, I should add, outside of the ravings about the misuse of Pandaria and that one incredibly awful person, there really weren’t any problems and I did have quite a few well-reasoned discussions.
I think calling these kind of events that is giving it a bit too much credit personally.
Damn, 79 new replies since last I checked this thread.
Anyways, I had a thought, and I am going to try and put it into words as well as I can because english is not my native language.
The thing is, you may wonder “Why would you constantly call out every little bit of weird rp even if it does not seemingly affect me directly?”. And to a degree, you’d be right to ask that question. At first glance there seems little to worry about if you’re not directly affected.
However, I think it is being called out not only because else they will just keep doing it, but also because I think, deep down, most of us hate having to ignore other rp’ers. I know I do atleast. I wish to keep ignore as an absolute last resort, since I assume most of us are all here to just enjoy a shared hobby, namely making stories about our characters in the Warcraft-universe. And we’ve probably all been in a situation where you’re rp’ing with someone, then a third person shows up that you do not get along with/think their rp is bad, but the person you were rp’ing with -does- end up acknowledging them. So, even when it is in place, /ignore just isn’t perfect.
And so, rather than outright accept that these people will keep doing what they’re doing, and potentially rope new rp’ers into it as well, it’s called out, because I assume most of us still hope that we can one day all agree on at the very least rp’ing setting-apropriate themes. ( And World of Warcraft is an -enormous- sandbox in which you can go wild, it has both medieval knights and spaceships, so it’s not like sticking to WoW’s setting is such a limit to your creativity, I’d think.)
So, tl;dr , I think bad behaviour is called out because we rather get people to adhere to atleast the basics of lore and common sense, than having to just /ignore them and accept they’re not going to improve and allow them to potentially influence new rp’ers with this mindset too, continueing the cycle. In the ideal situation I’d just like to rp with everyone.
I think the map that points right at the cultural appropriation is the most effort that goes in tbh
A huge part of a good event/prep is to find a suitable fitting location.
Which these people dont even bother to do.
what?
that just sounds like an AI throwed random things together for an event
That’s just offensive to the AI… At least very early stages AIs fit the bill.
I mean the basic AIs that just throw random words together, or like those data-collection tactics memes where you find out a name or something according to your initials, date of birth etc. Only this one is an event generator.
I agree to some extent, I just draw the line on which petty details I’m willing to care about in a vastly different place.
OK, you don’t want to care about these details a majority of us have deemed important because common sense and a deep desire to have verisimilitude in the RP.
No one is even asking you to, but it is annoying to have people voicing “Ah well, it’s a trifle really guys, you’re making a bigger deal than it is.” you see? when there’s a trend we clearly notice and is eroding the universe we’re engaging in. It’s in many ways the sister location of the all time RP server issue of having OOCers coming in here with no intention on engaging in RP at all.
This here is fine and dandy and all. I do the same in many regards. But if I see something I don’t like or I just can’t reconcile with, I leave. I don’t actively engage and instigate conflict with the people who do this stuff, because it’s their hobby just as much as it is mine.
The trouble is that their ‘hobby’ is to do roleplay that doesn’t make sense in the World of Warcraft and my hobby is to roleplay IN the World of Warcraft.
And I think it is fair to say that ‘their’ hobby can go elsewhere.
And then they go elsewhere and you still complain. Outside of “stop rping” what on earth could they do that would actually please you in a way where they can still have fun with their free time?
Yeah and it’s that mentality that’s exactly gotten us to this point.
I don’t either, I’d rather not do conflict at all but even I drew a line, a firm line that’s been ever been pushing back ever since the Ketamin caravan. Eventually, when reasonable people who’d normally let live can’t stomach that their surroundings looks more and more like a Circus and VR chat lounge instead of a world of swords and magic, they’re bound to speak up eventually.
As I’ve mentioned before, I think this comparison is just kinda moot. There’s a difference between someone hosting events in a place you don’t like and crusty undead milk
