Sure, they’re not in the same ballpark.
Doesn’t mean I wanna tolerate either and not uphold them to a standard and abide to the lore of the setting.
Sure, whether you’re buying apples or oranges, nobody likes rotten fruit. But there’s a difference between buying it at the grocery store or having it thrown through your window.
How about… and this may blow your mind… how about they roleplay IN the World of Warcraft setting?
And roleplay to the cultures and locations?
You really don’t have to be so condescending, I’m sure we can come to a mutual understanding if we maintain a cordial tone.
But, outside of funky location choices, what exactly is going on that wouldn’t happen during something like the Lunar Celebration, Love is In The Air, etc.?
ERP is the big one.
- Markets.
- Going to battlefields to pay respect to the fallen.
- Crafting. Imagine a faire where the focus was on teaching alchemy or woodcarving?
- Religious ceremonies
- Fun competitions such as fishing or hunting
- Hunting down some Scourge!
- Charity work.
And get this…
None of these involve the Tian Monastery
Wait, are you saying those are all things that don’t happen in the Warcraft setting?
Ha. Nice attempt but you are wrong. All these happen in the WoW setting.
Nice attempt to do a call out.
You missed this very vital part of what Tenasa said.
Not really. I asked for things that these people do at these events that don’t happen in the setting. I know your reading comprehension might not be the best, but at least try.
I hate to quote myself. But you missed this very crucial part of my own post.
“The setting” being Tian Monastery, Jade Forest, Pandaria.
The actions listed don’t involve said setting.
If you did all of those things in Dragonblight or Lordaeron? Great, go nuts. Not Tian Monastery, Jade Forest, Pandaria.
No, the setting being World of Warcraft, the video game.
I’m not getting that last part so I’ll just say this.
Fence sitting is inevitably an issue as well. It’s all good and respectable that if someone’s RP, toon or event doesn’t vibe with you, you just leave and don’t think about it. Sadly, and I’m not saying this to dig at anyone in particular, a lot of AD people are non-confrontational and those who are usually lack the eloquence to get their point across in an non-abrasive manner… Even so, not many people like to be told “You’re doing this wrong.” or “You’re having fun the wrong way.” even if someone came with a the most diplomatic energy there is.
I like the universe of WoW and I want people to operate within the established lore of said universe while allowing their some liberties that are consistent or do not break said established lore. I revile both extremes, those who push so far as to make headcanons or those who aren’t taking the universe, as wacky as it is, seriously and treat the RP scene as second life RP.
You might think I wanna police or gatekeep… You’re damn right about it. All these help to uphold standards. It’s not enough anymore to just move along and ignore if I don’t like something, I best be armed with the knowledge necessary to dissprove whatever nonsense I am looking at and make it known. Ofc you can’t always be successful, some people are very pigheaded and stubborn, unwilling to change no matter how many improvements and evidence you’ll bring but it’s a step forward.
Ultimately, I can’t stand it anymore just pretending I didn’t see anything and I should just not interact. Even if it’s not directly at the people involved, it goes a long way to say that something is wrong… I mean a forum post got Pandaria to be mostly free of the (dirty) outlanders who figured out that their events would fit elsewhere. AD is the last RP server… If it just goes the way of all other servers or turns into Moonguard, I might as well migrate back into PvE servers.
Practice what you preach first my brother in christ.
You’re being intentionally broad to downplay the issue.
These things happen in World of Warcraft. Where they do not happen, is Tian Monastery, Jade Forest, Pandaria.
Basically they have been trying to make it seem as if Uldum is some “A Thousand-and-One” nights sort of Arabia , and thanks to that we’ve now been having people claiming to be born in Uldum, that there used to be whole sheikhdoms and sultanates and whatever, when that isn’t even remotely true since humans only arrived to Kalimdor en masse during the Third War.
Then there was indeed the whole "Jailbait"thing, art with a character that looked like a minor. He tried to deflect it with “It was a joke” but even -if- that is true it is a rather poor joke.
Then there’s ofcourse the thing about holding parties in the strangest of locations.
I’m trying my best man
I will wade in and say that these could plausibly apply to Tian. Afterall, there is a small marketplace within the Monastery.
However, it’s literally a case of finding a way to compliment your setting. Not just occupy it. Like, I held a Lunar Bazaar in Tian (I committed the heresy), however, I was keen to keep it tied to it’s Pandaren setting and culture with an emphasis on Xuen and Shaohao.
It really ain’t that hard to connect a story to something.
He tried to make his own currency with a picture of his face on the coins as well.
