I been doing savage and ult raids in XiV for
a few year now. All of those things still exist. Most of the community use add-ons for graphical reasons such as GShade but a good number also use damage meter overlays to check performance. We just don’t discuss them in game as that can lead to a ban.
In higher end content everyone is expected to know both thier job and the fight inside out… And if you don’t then there’s entire discord communities dedicated to creating raider blacklists that statics will check if they need to pug an extra raider for the evening.
The communities in WoW and XiV aren’t that difference, the only difference being if you make too many mistakes in WoW someone will call you out whereas in XiV they might be all smiles and “let’s try again” but in thier FC chat or on discord they’re absolutely raging about you.
Although I generally agree in regard to boss mechanic addons, I’d heavily disagree in regard to things like a damage meter.
I want to be able to compare my own performance to that of my peers, to improve and grow. To know where I stand. If there’s no tool to see statistics like that, my interest in the game would decline drastically.
I know it happens because I’ve been that person… When you’re on your 5th wipe on Ramuh roulette because the tanks still aren’t picking up orbs for the debuff… Oh boy!
The interesting part in FFXIV for me isn’t as much the moment to moment gameplay, but the spectacle of the boss fights, the transitions (like how the last boss in Heavensward’s narrative shatters your screen, it’s SO COOL!), the effects, the music and narrative to the boss fights. It is an easy game and doing the same content over and over gets repetitive much quicker than it does in WoW, but it has other appeals that WoW doesn’t.
The boss fights telepgraph their abilites in big shapes on the floor. It’s would be pretty obsolete having an addon tell you they were doing it.
Damage meters do exist in games like FF they just aren’t allowed to be shared in public chat. Logging is also a thing.
You can also do all dungeons solo with a team of NPCs that waill never sass you.
Play the games you enjoy, I find the gameplay dull in FF but it’s very pretty to look at, friends play and dress up to various themes and attend parties and have great fun. I’m very jealous that they get player housing albeit through a terrible land grab lottery system.
Have you even played it? Not having addons/weakauras/etc changes the game. For me, it’s not a big deal, because I’ve been playing almost without addons until recently (4 months ago), but I welcome you to do a 15 and turn every addon off
I’ve been playing it on and off since 5th of June 2011, so yes. I played it more than I played WoW during Legion because of the artifact weapons. But compared to WoW, it’s rather easy. Granted, I only did up to and including the Eden raids, haven’t really played Endwalker because the massive queues put me off from even playing the game.
Best moment ever in FFXIV;
People’s reactions to that Shadowbringer fight…
“oh no he’s hot”
Lmao.
Yeah, no. I’m not healing with the default UI, it’s horrible. I’m not even touching normal dungeons with the default UI. The only stuff I have WA for is for tracking holy concentration stacks and duration on my priest and then for seeing how much healing I have in my cloudburst on my shaman and for the 1st boss in gambit.
Not gonna lie, even though I’ve been playing for 6 months now I sometimes struggle to tell the difference between enemy and friendly abilities on the ground.
It depends, really. At least regarding wow… At least back in the days of legion.
When I came back during that time, I was a bit clueless about a fight in emerald nightmare. During the fight I recognized I was doing something wrong, but couldn’t grasp what I should do instead. After maybe 5 or 6 tries the raid leader told me he was sorry but he had to replace me, which I completely agreed, as I was really clueless. Anyway, I recall that as a pretty good memory, because he handled the situation in a nice way.
But then, there are the random raid “boss” mofo has some ego issues and will act angerly for any reason.
