I want to play vanilla but why waste time when SOM2 or fresh era may come out soon. I like the idea of being on an equal playing field. Also, I am kinda annoyed that I moved my char to tbc back then. So no I refuse to invest time until some kind of fresh server comes out.

I am in the same boat, I don’t want to level because if fresh or SOM comes, I have to start again.

Yeah, I understand the flow of emotions. It’s human.
But, to have or not to have, to want or not to want, to refuse or not refuse, invest or not to invest - it is really up to you what you want do right now. Not like anyone is forcing you what to do right now.

Fresh isnt happening,som 2 maybe but doesnt worth invest for a year lifetime imo
Eh, I see this sort of post quite a bit. People don’t want to fall behind, but being behind is a natural part of an MMORPG. If fresh does happen, unless you’re playing nonstop and part of that cutting edge of the curve you will be behind, literally after a few hours.
People have mastered this game, and will be level capped in days (especially if there is an XP boost). Unless you are part of that group, you are behind. Being behind in vanilla isn’t really a bad thing anyway as all raids stay relevant throughout unlike modern expansions.
I’ve rolled on Firemaw fresh toon, and there are a lot of people around, on equal grounds. There’s a large influx recently.

Way I read it was not that they’re worried about being behind but rather repeating the process.

You want an equal playing field that lasts what, a week? People will be amassing hundreds of Black Lotuses by the time most get to level 40.
SoM was a major fiasco. I am amazed at how people forget this. By major I mean a very tiny population getting to ever see more than BWL.
They eventually transferred to Era, but what if you fall behind so much you need to wait for 5-6 months until SoM ends to finally be able to transfer your char to Era? Why not just directly start on Era for that matter?
An even playing field is not everyone being lvl 1 but everyone being able to have the time and framework to max out their chars, if they put the time. Also, on Era, we old timers are a tiny fraction of the population these days. This is quite clear to anybody the moment they log in Firemaw.
I do personally have an attachment to my chars. I have played vanilla since the pservers days and have lost many toons I enjoyed playing with a lot, all in the name of hype, fresh, and this time is different.
Glad this is not happening anymore. That pain is finally gone.
In any case, if all this does not matter, wish for SoM2 to be released soon, so you can have what you want. Maybe you are one of the few that will be collecting those black lotuses, in which case, I do not have much to say lol

Cmon guys. Fresh is awful. You people don’t know what you’re asking for. You know what fresh means? You level to 60, then you quit because logging Ony/MC for 3 months is boring. Honestly, Classic Era is the best way to enjoy Classic Vanilla. Fresh meant something in 2019 because we didn’t have official Classic servers back then but now it’s just been done too many times. Come to Era guys. You won’t understand how good it is until you give it a shot and stop idealizing f r e s h.

Yes, I will come to Era after I have played fresh.
The only good thing about fresh is that you might get the name you want.
Same goes for SoM2.
Just start on Era like a lot of people have recently. Firemaw or Pyrewood Village though.

Yes you can choose your name on SOM but after it ends and you transfer, you may have to change it.
The majority of players on Era are levelers - At least 80% of the population.
Then you have a WHOLE lot of 60s in greens to MC gear.
And then a group of old timers in Naxx gear, mostly centered in PvE.
This can be easily checked if you log in for 10 minutes in either faction mate.
Fresh itself isnt awful, it is people who are
Try playing a HC toon. By the very definition leveling becomes meaningful. Literally every item you get that is the tiniest upgrade does too. For me it’s really brought an interest back to the classic leveling process and has been great fun.

A lot of people don’t know this but at some point most names were released on the Era servers. You can get some very common names even on Firemaw. So the name argument isn’t even that great.

What happened to the characters that had those names?
Nothing. They just get a number beside the name then can rename when they want to play it.
