So as everyone has noticed I’m sure, mob stealth is completely broken. When you approach a stealthed mob he becomes visible at around 30 yards (maybe 20 dunno) and stays visible albeit in semi transparent mode like he was a stealthed rogue in your party.
Yet another thing on the long list of things that make the game easier than it should be.

No, that’s normal. Stealth is in general much weaker for mobs, and depends on the type of mob. Shadowmaw panthers for example are detected at a relatively short distance, but beyond aggro radius.
Hmmm… no, pretty sure that works as it did back in Vanilla, I remember these damn Shadowmaw Panthers in SV just to well, even after all these years, because I came very close to quitting the game because of them…
But I am really sure they always became visible when you were just out of Aggro range.
So far, stealthed mobs I’ve encountered behave exactly like they did during vanilla.
Sound normal to me. That’s exactly how I remember it being.
I’ll know for certain when I get to the Wetlands and get the quest to kill those ultra-annoying invisible Fen Creepers, or whatever they’re called.

I’m not talking about “just out of aggro” range, I’m talking about 20 YARDS!
Also aggro range is ridiculously small, WTF have they done to this game???
This is working as normal.
It was always easy to detect stealthed NPCs of equal or lower level.
I still got ambushed by a couple of shadowmeow panthers when going for a herb as a level ~32
They brought it back the way it was. I dont know what you think to remember about Classic, but most stealth mobs could always be seen if you were close. And honestly 20 feet? Thats really exaggerating things here. I am right now in SV hunting stealth mobs and when I see them or even hear them unstealth, they are right beside me.
Sometimes I can see them from far away because they dont spawn stealthed and take a second to do, but again, that was like that in Vanilla too.
You must be another of those private server people who assume that all the mechanics on your private server are ‘canon’ and everything Blizzard did in WoW Classic is wrong.

But you said that they weren’t visible just at the same opaqueness of a rogue in stealth in your group, which is exactly how I remember mob stealth throughout the game.
Maybe your alzheimers is kicking in and you are mis-remembering how it used to be.
If you feel it’s bugged, subit a bug report.
I got the point of the OP. The stealth is strange indeed. When you approach a stealthed mob it becomes full visible for a second from about 30 yards (the name plate appears too), then as you go forward to it, it goes to semi-transparent. I don’t remember this behaviour from vanilla (not pserver), but I remember a lot of surprise attack from stealthed mobs.
