Official Blizzard addon manager

With the recent headache of the curse client for addons being moved to Overwolf, a know bloatware program that frequently memory leaks, uses predatory monetization, and sells user data to 3rd parties, and with Blizzard endorsing a lot of addons to make the gameplay experience of wow more fleshed out, i.e DBM, bartender, moveanything, TMW etc

Wouldn’t it really be like, a huge favor for the community if Blizzard could just step in and give us an officially supported addon platform? It wouldn’t just get rid of all these completely cancerous predatory businesses but also encourage a lot of people who currently play addonless to install addons that are so commonplace they are almost mandatory at this point.

Good Idea :bulb:

Very good idea.

They could also just make some addon features built in, like clique casting for example.

I think Blizzard is wary of interfering with aspects of their game that are soley community-driven. However, this something I would love to see.

It could work similarly to Steam’s workshop system. That is, you “subscribe” to a mod, and the client automatically installs and keeps that mod up to date. I think Blizzard can pull that off with the infrastructure they have, just so long as they keep it as community-driven as possible and don’t interfere unless the mod obviously breaks TOS.

I think something like this should’ve already been in place for several years… So yes, definitely support this idea.

A workshop like system would be great, to get direct feedback from the users on forums, exchange ideas between creators, have direct communication with programmers at Blizzard even?

It’s the least they can do! The game is too reliant on addons as it is. Things like the UI really need work. I’m a minimalist when it comes to addons but there’s certain ones you simply need without feeling like you’ve got your hands tied behind your back. I think we deserve better.

I mean… they built a map hosting service into SC2. Why not an addon service into WoW?

Like you, I’d be very happy to see it.

I can’t think of anything I’d like to install less than Overwolf. I’m not even sure it works on Linux to be perfectly honest.

But now I have to. In order to update my tons of addons… /sigh

Can recommend Wowmatrix to keep addons up to date.

As a matter of fact, isn’t this what WeakAuras are, basically? Little addons we can share in-game. Come to think of it, you know?

It’s got a native Linux version 0.O

But it’s kindda hard to use… the text is completely white on a white background.

official blizzard addon manager…addon. OBAMA.

wow itself shall have more customization, incorporate some basic addons into it, and ban any 3rd party addons.

It should be baked into the BNET launcher

Isn’t Twitch client good enough as a WoW add-on manager? Apart from Elvui, it has all the ones I use and is simple to keep them up to date.

You know twitch sold their curseforge rights to overwolf? So twitch app won’t be there anymore for much longer.

This is long overdue, should be in launcher.

It would be the best thing since Legion, pls do it :+1:

The SC2 Arcade was fraught with its own controversies in the beginning. There is a distrust that Blizzard won’t treat mods on equal footing.

I never seen a better idea in these forums.
Amazing idea, would love to see this happening.

Ah, I see. Now I understand :frowning:
