Ok! Did Blizzard Really Nerfed Classic? Let's see

Lately, we get lots of threads and comments saying Blizzard nerfed Classic vs Vanilla. Elites are barely hitting harder then non-elites of the same level, dungeons are easier, etc.

Let’s watch this part of this video :

It’s a WoW ( yes Vanilla ) review by Gamespot back in the days. On this particular portion of the video, the reviewer is killing one elite with 2 others, a tank and a healer. Him being a Rogue.

Now, as far as I can see, the elite is hitting him with around 40 dmg. I can’t tell the Rogue level ( bad quality ), but the elite is green. This ogre’s from Loch Modan are level 19 if I remember correctly? So it’s safe to say that the Rogue is around 22/23 right?

Good, now. Can someone replicate this exact same fight with a …level 22 Rogue with … say items from the quests , or green in general items? It’s not important with how much you hit. The idea is to see if Elites are nerfed, as …some people like to say in this forums.

From that video you can also see fights with normal mobs which anyone is welcome to replicate them in Classic to see the difference.

PS: Keep in mind that this is likely an earlier version of the game reviewed, then the august 2006 Vanilla version which we play now!

Thanks!

EDIT: It seems Blizzard has done some tests of their own regarding Elites damage and so, it’s safe to say that we got the same Vanilla experience, at least in this regard.

Rogue is 29, that ogre is 10 whole levels below and still doing chunks of damage to her.

Wow, it really has been nerfed…

How can you tell is level 29 ?! Very legit question. He’s hitting between 15 and 22 or something in that elite. I assume a level 29 Rogue can hit better then this even back then?!

In Classic yep, not Vanilla.

The mob is green.

The ogre’s are known to around 19, as such we can estimate the rogue to be between 22-24 due to the way the mob difficulty colouration works.

Taken from the old colour code article.

Nah, mob would be green at 29 or even 30.

Why are you quoting just a porting of my comment? You made a statement, I asked to tell me how can you tell. Failing to sustain your statement, means you are just “trowing” the 29 number …

Unless you want to tell us how can you tell that he’s 29…

He’s making it up, the Rogue can’t be 29 for starters as the mob is showing as green to the player, if we are assuming (correctly) that these mobs are 19, then they would appear grey to the Rogue, and XP wouldn’t have been granted, which was.

Even at 30 it would show as green, don’t state what you don’t understand.

No it wouldn’t. If the Rogue is 29 then mobs 22 and lower will appear grey to him. We can see that the Ogre is green.

It’s literally the mob difficulty colouration. This is 2 for 2 that you’ve been wrong on now, going for the hattrick?

Sigh, let’s see how long it takes before you get it:

Mob gray value is based on a value called "Zero Difference’

  • ZD = 5, when Char Level = 1 - 7
  • ZD = 6, when Char Level = 8 - 9
  • ZD = 7, when Char Level = 10 - 11
  • ZD = 8, when Char Level = 12 - 15
  • ZD = 9, when Char Level = 16 - 19
  • ZD = 11, when Char Level = 20 - 29
  • ZD = 12, when Char Level = 30 - 39
  • ZD = 13, when Char Level = 40 - 44
  • ZD = 14, when Char Level = 45 - 49
  • ZD = 15, when Char Level = 50 - 54
  • ZD = 16, when Char Level = 55 - 59

With ZD being “how many levels below you is the mob gray” - so looking at the first line, the first grey you’ll see is a level 1 when you hit 6.

Il just leave this and you guys sort this out:

No it’s not nerfed in the way this community wants it to be.
It’s 2 years of adjustments to classes, skills, abilities, gear and world.
Why ppl have such a hard time grasping this simple logic is beyond me and says more about the community than anything else.

Yup, the Ogre’s are 18-19 in that zone : _https://classic.wowhead.com/loch-modan

You are level 27 right? Go to a 10-20 zone and click a level 17 mob, make a print and come back to us.

Or …

Yes. Now remind yourself that the incase of value is per level.

I always keep telling them this, that we got a later version of the game then the say … 2004 or early 2005 version of Vanilla and so, things are easier.

Anyway , I don’t have any chars level 22-24 to replicate this fight, but I would like to see someone giving it a try and then to compare …

I’ve heard from video that the game should give a sense of reward - AOE dungeon grind, right?
