Did you not see the notification in the center of your screen that says “Take Flight!” ?
The game tells you that you need to mount up and follow the dotted path through the circles. I admit I didn’t see the dotted line myself first time because of the size of my character and the camera, but the visual aids are definitely there.
Okay, this makes me curious, because I just ran through on my feral druid, and not a single NPC died during the encounter for me, and that’s me doing sub-par DPS as feral, so I relied on the NPCs to honestly make up for the damage.
Yeah it’s not the best visualization, but still miles better than the Dragonflight raid that required us to fly…
Also tested: Worked fine without dynamic flight, as long as you keep progressing.
You’re comparing LFR raids to a Story Mode raids. The description of a Story Mode raid is: “Story Mode is strictly to complete the story involved with the raid, involves a vastly simplified version of the final boss encounter, and awards no loot.”
What we have here is not a simplified version of the boss encounter. I still have to learn boss tactics via a Youtube video (many people confirm they can’t learn just by playing in-game).
You have a complex raid that doesn’t award anything.
The flying bit (While vertigo-inducing) is quite doable, there’s a line of arrows leading from each circle you fly through to the next (It’s like those dragon riding races, really), and if you follow that path, it leads you to the next platform.
I’m not entirely following you.
I’ve cleared the story on my feral druid, and that’s with me ignoring pretty much everything going on:
Boss summoned some adds, I went to kill them while NPCs kept attacking the boss.
Something spawned on the floor, like a circle I just stepped to the side, ignoring if this was a soak or not.
Floating purple thingies? wide circle around it all.
I’d like to see a stream/recording of you attempting the encounter, just to understand the situation better, because right now I don’t grasp the situation you are having trouble with, and I ignored…a lot of things going on.
And I’m just curious to see what’s troubling you, as I find that information valuable to help my own guild members with mechanics and implement stuff in my own game that makes it doable/clear for players.
Agree. I was really looking forward to it. I play WoW for the zones, story, lore and some casual pvp. I don’t have the skills or patience for pvE stuff and for me story mode, which I’ve used for 2 expansions now, was a great way of feeling I’ve completed the content.
Dimensius story mode is nothing like the previous ones because your’e suddenly dropped in space and are meant to mount, then because the skyriding portions leave you clueless as to what to do. Seriously story mode should have just made you unkillable as you fly or have an NPC give you a ride.
Exactly, it has two instant death mechanics. The first is the flight, which is too confusing. If you’re slow and don’t orient well in 3-D environment (like me), you’ll exhaust your Reishi ribbon fast and die.
Then you have an add which casts dangerous purple stuff on ground (at least I’m fast enough here).
going to agree. I got to his second minion, and as soon as I landed, got a message saying they’d finished a ritual and wiped. for a story mode, that is meant to let us experience the story, for those of us who dont do raiding, this feels like it’s way too dam hard. 3 bloody times now. and no explanation of mechanics, I ended up chasing the npcs around, cos I had no dam idea of what was going on.
What prompted you to use the Reishi ribbon?
You’re supposed to just mount up and fly to the island. There’s no need for the Reishi ribbon at any point in the story mode.
Just trying to understand your logic here, not judging.
I’ve learned that things obvious for one person, aren’t obvious for the other.
There’s basically 2 things to watch out for (three if being detailed):
The incoming debris that Dimensius throws at you. This is the markers that cover like 90% of the island. Here you need to run to the safe area, the NPCs should be running there as well as an indicator.
The mob’s ability: First island it’s a frontal move, so attack from the side/behind to be safe
The secon’d mob’s ability : It’s a circle, so just run out.
Oh no! I was looking forward to trying this today - As a solo player who doesn’t raid outside of LFR or dungeon outside of heroic, I wanted to see the story and finish the campaign. Now I’m a bit nervous! I’ll give it a go when I’m home.
I’m sure if enough people complain, Blizz will nerf it by next reset.
What did you find hard? I didn’t watch anything and I’ve managed to kill it on 2nd try (though the first one, for some reason, I instantly died as soon as the flying phase began, after mounting, I’m still trying to figure out why but no big deal).
