I just joined a pug who epic failed at killing her and everyone ragequit. When I go into the raid tab there is no cooldown though?
Does this mean I can try again with a new group? Does it not count it if you’re only in for a short time?

Yes,you can go and kill her.You will get saved only if you kill her.
Just kill her when shes on the ground and no dots when she fly and focus the dragons and u dont have to ask this question. Next!
Raid lock-outs only happen once a boss dies. So if you fail to kill a 1 boss raid like Onyxia you can try again with another group.
It’s worth noting tho that if it was in say Molten Core where there’s more than 1 boss if you kill the first one and fail to kill the rest, you’ll be locked in with those up to 39 other players for the rest of the weekly lock-out and won’t be able to simply join another group for another attempt.
How does it work for Molten Core?
I got up to Golmagg a few days ago with my guild but they finished it earlier today when I was busy.
Can I join a pug to finish the final three bosses or am I screwed?
You’re screwed. You are locked in with your group. So while a new player would be able to join(And be saved upon entering the instance) for the last 3 bosses you won’t be able to join another group.
No, you are raid locked to that MC, 1 boss kill in MC means that raid ID is locked to your account. If you leave after 1 boss, and the guild then go on an clear it, you’re still locked out of MC till the next reset.
MORE DOTS NOW!
Good times.
