Opinion : If microsoft decides to scrap the subscription model and

Tries to monetize the game by adding DLC model… would you approve of this as wow fan? And what do you think fhe future of this would look like

Nothing good comes of going free to play. All the money from subs has to be made through other means, leaning more heavily on microtransactions rather than the limited wow shop we have now.

It also brings in a lot of bad behaviour because it’s free.

Is going to play other games if it goes free to play.

I have a feeling it will become free to play on the Xbox game pass, you just need to sub to use their platform.

the expansions will most likely be normal and the members of the Xbox pass will buy that like everyone else.

If thats true…
I would hope they announce that separately from Blizzcon for the sake of saving us all from another iteration of April 1st memes.
Best to wait few weeks after the con imho.

We can already tell WoW is going B2P with the current model. It’ll be like all games post HotS. Don’t wanna look like dog fecal matter? Better buy that 99.99€ trader’s tender pack.

Plenty of scummy tactics from the Asian MMOs have already been added. And this is just the beginning. Calculated crony capitalist handbook 101 tactics even showed up this month quite clearly. For example if you bought a certain amount of items with tenders you’d end up 500 short which incidentally is on sale right now for 25€.

So you drop the sub slowly but surely while adding FOMO to the shop at a higher price compared to the average paying customer (3-6 months of sub per expansion). It’s been shown that the the majority of humans would rather buy 100 cheeseburgers for 1€ each then a months worth of food for the same price. And a sub is no different. I mean how do you think the arcade business stayed so lucrative for decades? Why pay 12€/month when you can pay 120€ a month or even more with whales in 0.10€ transactions.

Now you add a problem like a pointless grind that takes on average of 6-12hrs per day and sell the solution in the form of a skip. I’m sure you’ve played a game like that already.

Also currently in 1-2 years time all cashshop items are gonna end up at the trading post with upmarked prices because they can. And the only sale you’re gonna see is those tenders packs which sells 1000 tenders for 99.99€ instead of the regular pack for 29.99€ that only comes with 250 tenders or 300 or whatever funny tactic they’ll use. The more you buy the more you save. Gacha games have been doing it for almost 2 decades.

Oh and don’t forget MS also owns Zenimax and not just ABK. MS will become the new EA for sure.

are you a real gamer? because this thing you´re doing right now isn´t game-like :face_with_monocle:

Gamer turned developer. I learned my fair share from Asian MMOs YEARS AGO. WoW is just my guilty pleasure. But at least it pays itself for the most part and active time spent is on a minimal level, so it evens out for me at least.

Nah because that would likely mean that we could pay for every Expansion 60€ and 30/60€ more for the deluxe versions and every content patch another 40€
Though as it would likely not work for Classic as there will likely no DLCs.

100% Free to play will be the end of wow quality will drop

Microsoft already has an MMO. Check ESO how it changed when Microsoft acquired Bethesda…

Silly rumours with no base in reality and not looking to examples readily available.

In other words NOT FREE TO PLAY. It’s just included in your monthly, six month or annual subscription.

I’m pretty much gonna play the game regardless of how it goes unless it is full PvP, non-opt out… :face_with_peeking_eye:

If they did this however, it would mean a huge cosmetic shop which would quickly drain me of all money because I have 0 control with these.
Glares at GW2 and ESO
Assuming they made it buy to play not free to play. Free to play is always bad.

I guess, but I don´t see it like that since you are open to 100+ games on there for just 9,99 a month. super cheap gaming.

I´m a pickle thinker on this, thinking hard hurts.

They don’t… You misunderstand this acquisition. Microsoft does not care about micromanaging wow and they will just let blizzard manage it on their own

Both D4 and OW2 went on Steam and both are dying/bleeding players overall. WoW isn’t faring that much better and have been doing the same since MOBAs came about. It’s just taken longer and will continue to bleed for the next decade.

they won’t they didnt spend 68 billion buying the game to let one of the biggest money cow’s go free to play i mean sure lets be real they really wanted activision and not blizzard …

DLC aka expansions.

WoW may not be as big as it was in the past but with the inflated expansion prices and subscriptions (particularly through token sales) they’re raking it in.

Microsoft isn’t stupid.

They wanted King. Candy Crush prints money.

They did not buy blizzard for PC gaming. They said they will just respect their IP though and let blizzard work independently

let it burn it can’t possibly get any worse. 12 years later WOW still can’t even get close to games like eg. skyrim
