Overwolf & Blizzard Addon Policy

This video always come to my mind when it comes to the things modders are able to bring in WoW.

They make bank off of Hearthstone, it’s a popular deck tracker, that then shows ads. Hence ad revenue money

Oh they look amazing!

I guess people got goldfish-memory (Which was busted by mythbuster but can’t think of better term that sensitive people won’t find offensive)

I really don’t see need for such and why on earth would one use if it comes with ads.

This cannot be done. If you can download them manually, anyone with some skill in programming can create an addon manager just by roaming on the websites…

I mean… I could do it in half a day. So…

The troll in this picture…

Reminds me of the pianist from Interstella 5555.

:musical_note: One more time… :musical_note:

As for Overwolf, it should not be an unexpected scene seeing me extend my middle right hand digit and say: “Hey, would you like lemon or lime with that piece of advice mister?” Looks like I’ll be using the likes of Github or TukUI.org from now on.

Just been looking at WOWInterface and some of the addon versions don’t match those that are on CurseForge so it looks like I will still need to use the CF website.

URGH

One can certainly hope.

Overwolf, the Unicron of WoW add ons.

And hopefully, they will end up as Unicron, floating as decapitated head in cyberspace.

'Til all are one!

Yea well, I’ll just keep using wowup for aslong as it works. After that i guess it’s back to old school manually installing my addons :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Did she remove that tweet or something? I can’t find it anyway…

I’m going to keep using Wowup until the plug is pulled.

After that, I’m going to start going manual.

This is a quote from WowUp’s website:

Manage your addons across all your clients from all popular sources. Supporting Curse, WowInterface, TukUI, and GitHub.

I’m gonna use DBM as an example. DBM has a Curseforge page and Github page. Wouldn’t that mean WowUp would have access to DBM’s Github page, but not Curseforge page, or does this API block take WowUp’s access to DBM’s Github too? I don’t know how this addon stuff works on technical level, I just download them.
IF WowUp and other addon managers are able to pull updates from secondary sources, let’s say Github, then only addons, that don’t have a secondary source will be out of date if you choose not to use Overwolf or don’t want to manually update your addons.

Yes it was a poll… it showed 23% of the voters were going to use Overwolf… 53% wanted Wowup.

Rest were other options.

Well, I went to check my addons and there are surprisingly few, so I guess it’s back to doing it manually if wowup stops working. I won’t be downloading Overwolf.

The simplest solution would be if the addon authors stopped using Curseforge and uploaded their addons elsewhere. But maybe they are getting that much money out of it? Then there is probably nothing that can be done.

Oh right, thanks. No suprise in that result then i guess

It’s a bit extreme as it wasn’t anything bad

She must have got some hassle.
