As an addon author I don’t host anything on CurseForge or any of these sites anymore but Github and Gitlab, consumer of my addons are affected by this but personally I don’t trust Overwolf and the like.
It was really awesome if Blizzard created an official repo on say Github and made all addons hosted there or their own Git server and then maybe created an integration with the battle.net client, just an idea.
p.s. I support WowUp.

Yes it’s horrible.
But i just wanted to let you know, that you can say crap.
It’s my favorite replacement word for the sh…internet technologies one.
I just want you to enjoy it unbothered!
I see wowhead’s over-sensitive moderation team is at it again and closed off the comment section.
I get it when people are nasty->you clean it up… but this way of just locking or deleting entire threads or comment sections is way too common these days (not just talking about Wowhead here).

Actually, I wonder what’ll happen if I try to run the Overwolf app in a snap package on Linux.
I fear that Overwolf’s heads will explode when they find themselves unable to steal my data, or they just get garbage data, and the viruses won’t even work - nor will the overlay.
Assuming it starts at all, of course.
Either way, they wanna mess with me? I’ll mess them right back.

To anyone even considering installing anything Overwolf excretes: don’t. Just don’t. I used their overlay in the past, both when they came bundled together with TeamSpeak years ago and then (because I didn’t learn my lesson) about two years ago for a brief period of time.
Not only does it bog down your computer but it also crashes many games simply by running in the background and if you try to make use of the overlay it actually runs ads on your screen, while you are playing, on top of the game. Not even kidding. It determines when you are having “downtime” during a game and starts playing videos.
Don’t know if they have since taken that last feature out but any company pulling something so scummy will stop at nothing to wring money out of you, one way or the other.

True.
I actually find overlays annoying in general. They were kindda useful back when we were using fullscreen apps and couldn’t just alt+tab out without breaking something, but nowadays pretty much anything has a borderless windowed mode - so just alt+tab to your browser or recording program or whatever it is.
What Overwolf are doing is beyond scummy, I used a spreadsheet before, and I will use one again, because I am not using an app made by such a scummy company such as them. I would really like it if blizz could just bake the functionality into battle net.
Awesome. Hope he makes it work as good as before this mess with Overwolf

Overwolf is like doing an unprotected one night stand.
If wowup manage to use github and addon authors start uploading more there then the choice is clear to me personally what my choice is, otherwise I’ll just do manual updates which isn’t all that bad or tedious when you keep a small addon library.

Overwolf deleted their tweet asking people to post new ideas and feedback.
Luckily I visited the page and have the link in my history.

Doubt it, it doesn’t have a magnifying feature.

In which case this should also include zygorguides which even has a subscription. Also there’s the question of tsm premium, one could argue both for and againsr this as you don’t NEED to spend money on it. The same can not be said about zygor where you HAVE to pay for the guides in one form or another. I dunno if they have changed it, but to get the guide for classic, the subscription is mandatory as you cannot buy it as a standalone guide like the retail guides.
As a player who only uses DBM, Details and RIO (RIO obviously has its own Program launcher so thats fine) how hard is it to really manually manage these addons? o.o
dont like the idea of this Overwolf
I made a list of every addon that is currently available on curseforge and added a git repo if the addon author has a public one.
https://kyreldk.github.io/wow-addon-db/
Out of >7k addons, 1.6k currently seem to have a public git repo - at least the ones I could find.
