Trying to decide whether to commit to ranking or not. R13/R14 gear is BiS P1 but if P1 is 2 months, I may just save whatever brain cells I still have from that mindless grind …
Which class/race are you planning to play? For warlocks the weapon is bis until Naxxramas…
also i expect to never see raid BiS gear given the short cycle and increased difficulty as a PvE casual
It’s not worth it for Warlock you can actually get the Sharpened Silithid Femur before Naxx which has almost exactly the same stats the only difference is the R14 weapon has 1 Int more, which is nothing. You could also just go for Staff of Shadowflame which isn’t that much worse either. T2 also provides Warlocks with an easy to obtain PvP set that is perfect for PvP with the high stamina and juicy set bonus (SP increase and more pet resistance/sta)
The only classes that the R14 grind is worth it for is Rogue and Warriors since those weapons are BiS till Naxx and they face much heavier competition on weapons plus the damage increase is significant for casters it’s slight.
You might want to grind to R13 as Mage, Priest and Hunter for the armour. This is assuming the grind will require no lifing as I’ve not really read up on if there will be major changes to the PvP system.
That depends entirely on your preferences and your luck. With 2 months (or less depending of how silly Blizzard are) of AQ before Naxx release you don’t even have to be very unlucky to not see it drop at all, let alone the 5+ you will need for all your casters to get one. That is assuming you are even in a guild capable of killing viscidus in that time. Viscidus is one of the fights in AQ where Blizzard could make targeted changes to stop people from cheesing it. That could possibly make it one of the most diffcult fights of Season of Mastery, just like it was back in vanilla. Even with all the cheesing people did in classic it was the fight people struggled the most with in AQ.
You are also saying that having a bis weapon for 6 months (ignoring the fact that it is very slightly better than femur) isn’t worth it, which many people will disagree with.
With that mentality the only class worth playing for anything other than healing is warrior.
Personally I would say rank 14 isn’t worth it at all unless you really enjoy the grind and have far too much spare time.
Why would you wait 4 months for the chance of getting t2 pieces (you may have to wait much longer to actually get them) when you can get gear that is on par with t2, and better than anything pre BWL, within a month after release?
Rank 13 is pointless as a mage for PvE based on your previous logic. You either stop at rank 10, or go for rank 14.
If you are planning to pvp then you need to get rank 14, the gear is just too good it should be time gated
MC (4 months) → BWL (4 months) → AQ … that’s around 6 months of having imba gear, yep
I mean, this will depend on your luck etc.
You’d have to have a good guild to progress through AQ with the lack of gear going out.
No wbuffs + increased AQ boss HP.
Throw in a lot less months to get gear for the further raids.
It’ll probably be easier to get the R14 weapon lol.
No my logic was that the itemization of Warlock T2 makes it more than good enough to PvP with. Mages on the other hand don’t have the same luxury with tier pieces as it lacks stamina so if they want to PvP seriously they want R13 gear or R10. They can go for R14 weapon if they don’t mind no lifing for another 3 weeks or so but for casters the weapon isn’t that much of a massive upgrade in terms of added DPS over the options you can get in raids.
Obviously it’s more appealing with shorter time between phases but as someone who got R14 in classic I wouldn’t recommend the grind as it’s not worth the effort but to each his own.
You make it sound like walking into a store picking up a soda …
i think youll be in for a surprise …
