Paladin Bug - Seal of the Crusader isn't working with Seal of Martyrdom and Crusader Strike

Judging a target with Seal of the Crusader debuffs them and increased the damage they take from all Holy Damage Sources.

  • Crusader Strike does Holy Damage now but doesn’t get a damage increase when hiting a target with this debuff.
  • Seal of Martyrdom does Holy Damage on your auto attacks and when using Judgement. Both the auto attack hit and Judgement doesn’t get any increase in damage when being used on a target with Seal of the Crusader debuff.

These are 2 major bugs that significantly lower Paladin’s DPS in both Tanking and DPS specs right now. Having noticed this it probably means all of our Paladin Runes are probably not working with our talent tree skills and could be contributing for Paladins to be really weak this phase. Every Rune and probably should get a reviewed by your testers to see if they are working properly with our Talent Tree Skills.

As far as i understand Judged seal of crusader apply bonus holy spell damage on the target. Crusader Strike and Seal of martyrdom have scaling coefficent of 0 for spell damage, so it is working correctly

I completely agree with you that paladin is so weak in pve because the runes and paladin core doesnt work together. I think it is an oversight from the devs.
Crusader strike and martyrdom should scale with holy damage.

well at least martyrdom will be scaling with the buff we’ll have wednesday

It just states this:

Unleashing this Seal’s energy will judge an enemy for 10 sec, increasing Holy damage taken by up to 140. Your melee strikes will refresh the spell’s duration. Only one Judgement per Paladin can be active at any one time.

To me this means any source of Holy Damage should be increased. Melee Holy Damage or Spell Holy Damage. Also Seal of Righteousness and Seal of Command benefit from Seal of the Crusader so it doesn’t make sense that Martyrdom Doesn’t.

Exactly, it doesnt make any sense. A lot of paladin players saying that our runes are a mess. In P1 we get CS and DS which scales with AP exclusivelly, then we get this lame shockadin runes, which only scales with SP. Now we are pigeon holed to use Exorcist, Art of War, Sheath exclusively to deal any meaningful threat or damage. Sheath the flagship rune for p2 is useless without exorcist. There is 0 choice for prot/ret runes because the dev doing paladin does not understand the class at all.

Both abilites also do not profit from sanctity aura.

LOL, So theres even more bugs. These bugs combined with each other is like a 10-20% DPS loss. People wonder why Ret is bottom of the DPS Specs and we have had 4 months of our Talents not working with Runes when they should. They should honestly fix this priority instead of buffing our damage weekly so we can actually see what a Ret’s damage is without the bugs.

Yeah I agree. I am honestly pretty surprised that so few players noticed this bug despite it being in the game since the beginning. Also apparently even blizzard seems to not know about this bug. But making this bug known to the devs won’t be easy I think.

We are getting buffs every week, probably devs agree that there is a problem. I dont think it is feasible fix these “bugs” in classic era framework without giving SP scaling to SoM, CS and maybe making DS holy and giving it a SP scaling. Also this would reduce our reliance on exorcist.

Did you test it, are you sure ?

By testing i mean parsing hundreds of hits w/ and w/o aura.

We will see what they will do for Rets in P3…i don’t think we get much more than the Seal buff on wednesday in P2.
I just try to reach the 1k dps on Grubbis from now on…got 790 dps on it last try…without chicken buffs and without power infusion…there definitely is space for more dps if you ultra min-max the fights.
But even then ye…it’s kinda annoying to be just lower mid-tier dps.

I made paladin alt for the first time ever, and as soon as i got the spell i instantly noticed it and asked in guild chat. they said yes, it only scales with weapon damage therefore with attack power.

Tbh unless you play without damage numbers its hard to miss that yellow hits doesn’t get bigger after debuff. :man_shrugging:

Yeah I just tested its hiting the same with Sanct on or off. SotC has no effect in increasing the damage of CS and SoM AAs and Judgement. I haven’t tested our Vengeance Talent but wouldn’t be suprised if that didn’t work either. This is shocking because its not supposed to work like this.

In WoTLK Divine Storm and CS are Holy Damage but they are counted as a Spell so they do receive the benefits of the talents in our skill tree. In SoD: SoM, CS and DS are counted as a physical attack; like a Warrior Ability and I think this is what causes SoM and CS not to be counted as Spell Holy Damage so this means the game counts it as Physical Damage even though its Holy Damage and it doesn’t receive any effect from our talents.

What is crazy is that every ability in the game that does Holy Damage is counted as a Spell other than our 2 Runes (SoM and CS) which is causing the bug. They need to give these abilities a spell modifier so the game counts them as a spell so they can benefit from our talents.

This buggy interaction is causing us to have 0 value in the Retribution Tree and probably explains why Prot Paladins go into the Holy Tree over Retribution because None of our Runes get any benefit from our Talent Damage Modifiers in the Ret Tree. Exorcism and Consecration (Which Rets don’t have now) are the only abilities in our rotation that benefit from the Holy Damage talents from the Ret tree currently. This just seems like a massive oversight and massive bug. This really can explain why we are struggling so badly this phase.

Thing is, if they make Crusader Strike and Divine Storm a spell, they will benefit from sheath of power; Making them a bit OP.
I do believe that SoM and Crusader strike should benefit from SoTC and Sanc aura, It’s like the only thing we need for Ret right now.

I hope they adress this issue and I hope they will find a solution.

Actually SoC is also considered a melee attack and can be missed, dodge or parried, crit @ 200% and cannot be resisted but does benefit from spell damage and Sanctity Aura, which makes think even more that the current status for SoM / CS is obviously a bug.

Seriously WTF are they doing ? I can’t believe ret is still broken while they are constantly buffing some other classes (hello shamans).

Seal of Command has a spellpower coefficient and SoM does not.

It doesnt make sense to make our melee attacks scale with SP. They already scale with weapon/AP. If they need to be buffed blizzard can just buff the %dmg they do. Why make it scale with SP which you get from AP anyways, instead of just increasing the AP scaling.

Thats not really the point, we speculate the reason they do not profit from sanctity aura and seal of the crusader is because they don’t have a spellpower coefficient. So one way to fix it might be to give them a spellpower coefficient, but of course they could also fix it in many other ways, I also think giving crusader strike a spellpower coefficient feels a bit off.
