Paralyzed making a choice

Hey all!

So Fresh came out and ever since the release i’ve been stuck on what to pick. So far even I’ve become paralyzed by regret/fear of making the wrong choice. Atm im lvlin my warlock on the horde but every 20 minutes or so I start doubting again if this is the right choice for me. I’m sure more people have experienced this and was hoping for a bit of advice since I rlly want to play fresh. I’m stuck playing on the horde or alliance.

You’re not alone. I’ve rolled a Disc Priest after I spent an entire week planning and testing a Holy Paladin, which I arrived at following a pros and cons list of every single class. Now, I wish I’d stuck with my gut because I feel less connected to my character since I planned the whole look/name of my Paladin in advance, too.

The questions I’d ask are
What made you roll a Warlock as opposed to all the other classes?
Why Horde? For the look/lore of the races or the racials?
What do you feel you might miss out on if you play a Warlock?
What do you want to do at endgame? PVE? PVP? If PVE, do you like the look of the tier sets? You’ll probably be working to gain them for a while. If PVP, do you mind having to re-summon your demons after you res?

Just roll what you like to play - not what others like to play or what may be needed right now.

Classic: Alliance dominates PVE, Horde dominates PVP. By the time anniversary wotlk hits it is going to be the other way around.

It does not mean that horde does not do raids or that alliance does not participate in pvp, it just means that finding a guild dedicated to a specific activity should be easier.

Analysis paralysis is only real if you dont have a goal. If you find yourself a goal (like i am going to kill all raid bosses or i am going to get rank14 pvp or even do all the quests in the game despite not having a Loremaster achievement on classic) you will quickly realize that there is a clear way to achieve it and everything else is just an illusion of choice.

Also find a guild kek

Thanks all for your reply!
I like the aesthetics of the alliance a lot but I always played Horde. I try’d alliance for a bit during phase 3 of SoD but I found i sometimes had the feeling of missing the horde. So in phase 4 I went back.

Now however I have 2 concepts in my head that I want to execute both. But classic being classic and there only being 1 pvp server I can’t make the decision and end up not playing at all.

I also have no other friends playing the fresh server. Wich normally makes teh decision a bit easier.

the only final boss in any 40 man raid that was killed first by alliance was Nefarian, all others were a horde first kill. But yeah, alliance have dwarf priests and paladins … horde have rend buff to compensate tho and stacking melee on rend buff is insane

Edit: TBC was all about Nihilum (horde) and then Paragon popped up and Nihilum became ensidia (both horde) that cleared out all the bosses there

So I guess horde dominated both? Didn’t follow PVP that much

I found the quests in Azeroth and Kalimdor for horde are way more interesting and the story better but thats personal preference

I myself can only speak from HC perspective and alliance is miles ahead because utility provided by paladins outweighs one provided by shamans. Also fear ward yeah

Alliance might not be much stronger but has so much quality of life that it takes easier it to a whole new level.

But i don’t think that speaking about vanilla world first guilds has anything to do with a person that is thinking about deleting a level 20 toon :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

IMO the most important thing is if you’re enjoying yourself. Do you like the race you picked? Is your class fun? I played a nelf priest in classic and definitely recognized it wasn’t the optimal pick for pve and pvp but I still had a great time. Enjoytheride

This is one thousand percent the thruth. Find fun people to play with and play the class/spec you want.

Imho while you are not wrong there is an issue.
I’m having the same issue as op, i want to try classic again but i simply can’t choose a class ( i can’t even choose if i should try the new classic anniversary edition or try SOD again btw). The issue is: If i can’t play a character in the way i want can it be called fun? I wanted to try a caster but at the same time i don’t like mages and warlocks. What do you think i should do? Roll something else and risk to not even been able to find a dungeon spot?
(why i have the feeling that my reply was completly OT?)

Sit down and think long and hard. I was pretty sure I was going to play a Tauren Shaman and yet here I am playing a Tauren Druid and I don’t regret my choice in the slightest so far.

The Servers won’t run away. Think about what you want to do later on (if you intend to raid) or if you want to be able to experience multiple roles instead of just DPS.

What exactly do you regret or doubt about the Warlock? Is it the Faction, the Race or the Class?

If you don’t like mages and warlocks what kind of caster are you looking for? Elemental shaman plays different with the totems but both shadowpriest and balance druid have very similar mechanics to at least one spec of mage or warlock. Of all caster I think warlock has the most variety of playstyles, affli with dots, demo with pets (somewhat) and destro with shadowbolt spam :-). Problem with mages is that you are stuck with frost until the release of ZG/AQ/NAX because of high resistance and immunities to fire in MC and BWL, but their damage output is higher than any other caster. Although with dual spec now that could be different. Also note that if you play a hybrid you could get pigeonholed into healing in end game content. But like I said my own opinion which might be a bit biased

I’d say level up several alts at a time and decide from there, and play at your pace without the stress, just have fun and enjoy.
I’m currently playing a Warrior at Stormstrike and a Paladin at the HC realm.

Hope this suggestion helps.

I had tryed to level a lock back in 2019 but got bored to death few levels after 40 (42 to be precise) so was mainly looking at the Balance druid/elemental shaman. I like both the playstyle but for what i can see and remember i will be stuck with a subpar character with heavy mana issue and unable to deal a good quantity of damage, that is the issue.

Of those 2 I think the elemental shaman is the best option out of that for pve endgame, but indeed vanilla hybrids suffer big compared to pure classes and oomkin is really a spec you can only do pvp in

I went nostalgia this time around and rolled as dwarf paladin. The same as my first character way back in 2004. I will heal dungeons and do alchemy and give my friends potions. Feels awesome!

I would test a max lvl character on a private server if i were you. You can try them all on a dummy target with max gear. It takes 5 minutes / spec.
