Parse Issues

Came a cross a thread on reddit worth sharing, quick description of logs, the good and the bad.

"And here is the problem with parses- X person didn’t “do better” than anyone. “Doing better” implies that a lower parse % would be “doing worse” which is the exact opposite of how raiders should be viewing their contributions.

Like yeah it’s fun to see big numbers or whatever, but when 40 people are all chasing parses, no one is dispelling, targeting adds, dodging mechanics, or doing anything that would potentially lower their parse.

Not only that, but even at the finest level of class/spec/ilvl/worldbuff detail it still doesn’t take into consideration raid comp and ignores everything except for dps. A warlock in an 8 warrior raid will never compete with a warlock in a 24 warrior raid that runs spriest.

The only way to be “competitive” in parsing is to cheese your f*ing balls off, because that’s what other people are doing. No one is “doing better” than anyone else according to parses, they are only cheesing the content at varying levels.

Wants to parse? Bring out the cheese."

because isn’t that all that really matters?
DPSing the boss to 0 in the fastest time.
week after week after week…

Not really it’s negative dps if your dead.

not decursing/dispelling/ following simple mechanic’s causes more deaths and makes the raid even less DPS overall than if you just didn’t have a meter or parsing ontop of risking a wipe which is the entire point of his post

It’s also the same with things like sunders high parse warriors let other warriors sunder and it’s the other warriors reason they parsed in the first place since sunders is the biggest DPS increase if they got all the sunders up faster it would be overall more DPS for the entire raid instead of personal parsing

ah my sarcasm wasn’t detected.
I apologise.
I agree with both you and the OP.
But I do not care about people analysing dps.

Its an ego thing for sure and should be viewed as such (entertainment.) The real problem is when guildleaders or leaders for pugs looks at the logs as some sort qualification/license in order to letting dpser join their raids. They should know better than that.

To a certain point, DPS’ing matters a lot.
But try doing 0 decurses on an otherwise very face-roll boss like Noth in Naxxramas and you’ll see that DPS isn’t the ONLY thing that matters quickly.

Well, dps and tactics are equally as important.
You don’t want somebody doing lower dps than the tanks for instance.

And that’s why you rotate your parsers. Half your dps does chores like decursing and targetting adds, and half goes for NUMBERS. And then you switch next week.

Depends if you enjoy that or not. If you are, hey, great, I’m really happy for you.

If you want to parses that matter you might wanna go to retail , where raid mechanics matter for all raid members .
