The answer is the engine is pretty dated. It just can’t handle crowded areas and when a lot of people attack the same target. Don’t need to jump around bushes. This is not cpu bottleneck.
Just check a modern mmo like ashes of creation when 100 people on ascreen attacking each other and not asingle frame drops.
Try to do nightfall in wow with a lot of people there and i mean like 40 ppl. You will hve 20 fps no matter what pc you have. This is awful optimization not cpu bottleneck. There is nothing a 9800X3d can’t handle at the moment. Wow should not be either.
It is both… it is a CPU-limit caused by a dated engine
I’m still on a 5800X3D, upgrading to a 9800X3D would increase my FPS in WoW by ~50% which is pretty huge.
For example, that would be going from ~80 FPS in Dornogal to ~120 FPS.
The increase in FPS in a 30man raid would be smaller since the FPS are way lower, like 30-40 FPS on Bandit (probably the most demanding boss in LOU raid).
I would “only” be dropping to like ~60 FPS, which still feels worlds better than 40.
It wouldn’t? People have 20 fps on bg or crowded areas where they fight a boss like target. So what fps do you have now 15?
nobody has 120 fps in dornogal not even with 9800x3d everyone has like 80 or so.
If I fly outside I have 165 fps too (my monitor hz cap). It is the crowded areas where the gpu refuse to draw more than 100 W.
look at this guys video on youtube: /watch?v=bQmgSbYkxWc
In dornogal he has like 80 fps and the gpu only draws 200W. Go to 1:35 or os. he is so hard capped on bg with like 30 fps and the power draw is 100W. A gpu that could draw 400W+
The gpus are insanely starving in wow.
I have 70-80 on a full server with my 5800X3D, like i said already.
There’s a couple streamers with a 9800X3D and they had 120+ FPS in the middle of Dornogal where most people are (setting 10 even, i run 7 for draw distance and lod).
The GPU doesn’t “refuse” anything, it can only render as many FPS as the CPU is able to prepare for it to render
Some settings that are heavy on the CPU are:
I have a 4090 and it’s not worth turning RT shadows on since it hits the CPU too.
So even though my 4090 is like at 50% load, turning on RT shadows LOWERS my FPS and the GPU load because the CPU can prepare less FPS with RT on.
This video shows exactly what i tried to explain to you.
Look at the GPU usage with RT on and off.
His GPU load goes up with RT off and down with RT on, because of the CPU-Limit increasing with RT on.
Also he has like 115-120 FPS without RT, like i said.
40man BGs are the worst case, you got 80 players + alot of NPCs.
Now with all the addons people are using on average, this kills the CPU
Just think about how many spells and things need to be calculated via combatlog by the game and then by all the addons AND weakauras.
Even just turning off nameplates (especially with buff auras etc on) increases FPS by sometimes 20 or more alone.
graphics settings literally don’t change anything if you have high end gear. I can even put the game up to UHD from 1440p I still have the same fps in dornogal. GPU is not the limiting factor. Engine is holding the cpu back.
you are arguing about this I literally said the first time that the engine is dated and it is the reason not cpu bottleneck. The cpu is not bottlenecking the gpu. The engine is just awfully optimised and not using the full power of the pc.
I think you do not understand what a CPU-Limit is.
If a game is singlethreaded like WoW, it is still the CPU that is limiting your FPS, even though it could do more on a multithreaded engine.
I don’t have ray tracing on. My draw distance is not on 10. I have them 8-5-5
yes like I said the engine is dated and trash that is why it is bottlenecking. But the cpu is not bottlenecking the gpu in any other game. lmao
I don’t know why you refuse to admit that the engine is the problem here. Not the cpu bottleneck. The 9800X3D is not bottlenecking my 9070XT nor 4090 or 5090 in any decently optimised game.
When they test for cpu performance they do 1080p because they don’t want to run into gpu bottleneck not cpu bottleneck duh. If you go up to UHD even a 3 gen lower cpu will be able to keep up and all of them will just have the same fps cap because at that point the gpu is the limiting factor. The higher resolution you go the more heavy lifting is on the gpu not the cpu.
Just posting here to say i’m having the same issue of 2-5s hangs at the start of some boss-fights in m+ dungeons. Most notable is 1st boss of Floodgate, which does this almost every-time.
Have tried the fixes here, will just wait for an answer, an ETA or something before destroying my own keys (and others) and wasting 15-30mn of 4 other peoples time.
Hi all, here’s my story. 2 days ago I updated bios and the driver on my gpu, but i also enabled vsync in the nvidia control panel (accidentally). I played for 7 hours and caught a freeze for 5~ seconds for the first time in the patch. I assume that it was caused by vsync. I dont know if its somehow related to vsync in the game but i suggest you to try to turn it off (and also turn off triple buffering)
If you have a 144+hz monitor you should probably have the adaptive sync feature(freesync), it can be enabled in the monitor menu, it works better than ingame vsync. However, your monitor must be connected via display port if you have an nvidia gpu. Also lock your frames in game by at least -5 of your monitor’s refresh rate for it to work.
Got this a few months now. 3 to 6 second freezes in M+. Extremely annoying. So many people have this problem, I can’t understand why there is no blue response or fix yet. I hope they fix this soon.
I’ve probably had this problem throughout all of TWW. Sometimes, when a battle with an opponent begins, my game stops responding. A few seconds pass, and I end up dead. The issue isn’t frequent, but it happens about 1-2 times per evening. I’ve read about this topic and tried some solutions, but they didn’t help. I play as a tank and healer, so this problem is extremely critical for me. I’m ruining people’s keys, and because of this, every one of my runs adds an extra affix due to these freezes. How can I fix this?
