any update? acknowledgement? anything from blizzard at all?

This is still happening, I just bricked a 16 priory from freezing for a good 6 seconds on the first pull. Understandably I was met with abuse and reports. I have tried everything to sort this, I am getting close to just unsubbing.

have you tried to disable vsync and triple buffering?

Found legit the final solution for all those with the nvlddmkm Event ID 153 bug. I first suggested the DDU uninstalling of the drivers but the problems came back. So I took my time with this solution and as of now, I am two weeks completely lag free. I can tab out, I can raid, I can do everything and it is running normally. So here you go:

  1. Simply go to your registry: Start → Run → Type in “Regedit”
  2. Go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers” right-click and create a new key of type “DWORD (32-bit)” and name “TdrDelay” with a value of 10 as Decimal value.
  3. Restart PC.

TDR stands for Timeout Detection and Recovery. This is a feature of the Windows operating system which detects response problems from a graphics card, and recovers to a functional desktop by resetting the card. If the operating system does not receive a response from a graphics card within a certain amount of time (default is 2 seconds), the operating system resets the graphics card.
Before TDR existed, problems of this nature would have resulted in a system freeze and required a reboot of the operating system. If TDR is enabled and you see the TDR error message, “Display driver stopped responding and has recovered,” this means that the Windows operating system reset the display driver.

Let me know if it worked for someone.

Came here too see if anyone else was having problems. I originally commented a while ago that my Mac mini M4 Pro was running overtime the second I loaded the game, regardless of add-ons, etc. A few days later, I’m pretty certain there was a very minor hot fix, which cured it for me.

As of last week, my Mac is hitting crazy fan RPM and CPU temps. The FPS hasn’t dropped this time round, though. It’s 100% a WoW issue; the second I load the game, the issue arises.

I’ve reported this to them with a bunch of data, no doubt they will not only review the ticket correctly but will also ask me to remove adding, clear cache, etc., stuff I’ve already done.

It’s impossible to play this game. I run keys, and I get frozen once or twice per evening. The problem is that it always happens during some boss mechanic or right in the middle of a puddle. I die, then my group dies because I’m the healer. I think I’ll cancel my subscription and wait until this issue fades to the back of the forum (and everything starts working like it used to).

It started to happen to me too during the Mug’zee fight. The first 5 or so pulls were a laggy mess, and then it kinda went away.

It only happens on this boss for me.

Blue Plz.

Months later, still no fix… Unbelievable

I dont claim to have solved the issue, but in the past couple of days I have not had any sudden freezes after implementing the following settings (I admit that the things i’ve tried are mostly from the forums and reddit solutions other players have shared as well).

Description of problem noticed
I have 2 monitors running (the game usually runs on my primary monitor and the secondary monitor usually has discord or a web browser running as well).
As what others have commented here, the problem started after the latest patch and is mostly experienced when running keys/raiding. In my case i’ve noticed it occur during ground swirlies appearing to warn us of spells that need to be avoided which would cause instant death if not dodged effectively. The FPS will usually freeze from somewhere between 2 to 5 sec and when it returns to normal, we would usually be dead already :stuck_out_tongue:

Settings done and found that it helped

  1. I disabled hardware acceleration for the apps running in background - this includes chrome and edge (running youtube and other streaming services) and even discord running in second monitor.
  2. I made sure both monitors were running in the same refresh rates
  3. Went to the retail Wow’s wtf folder > and opened the config text file. Manually set the gxApi to run D3D11 as even if you set it to directx11 in the ingame menu option it still says D3D12 in the config text (not sure if the game actually still uses dx12 but just had to make sure)
  4. disabled max foreground fps , background fps, target fps in ingame menu
  5. made sure the spell density option in the ingame menu IS NOT SET TO DYNAMIC

Hopefully this helps someone out.

I have the same problem for some weeks now. Noticed it too, that freezes often occur when swirlies are involved - trash in Priory, some trash in delves for example. It gets annoying, because most times you’re just dead when it happens.

Here is what I have done:
Turned off target FPS and V-sync in Nvidia Control Panel settings for WoW, I also had turned off target FPS in-game + I have changed spell density in graphic settings from “dynamic” to “some”
I also noticed that neither ELVUI isnt the reason of those freezes, nor any other addon. Will give you an update in next week if this helped or not, howewer I didnt have this issue very often, but it happened sometimes during some boss encounters in M+
good luck with fixing the issue to all !
EDIT!!! Still get those freeze!!! Today got in Floodgate!!!

Joining in this thread, cause I got those freezes too and wanted to make sure we are talking about the same thing. Heres a recording via shadowplay of one of those said freezes (happens at around 0:42 for 4-5sec):

still having problems every now and then from my side as well sadly even after the modifications ive done. sucks coz at higher keys its practically instant wipe if those happens during situations like that

Exactly in situations like this! I know it too well sadly. Of course i tried all recommended solutions - nothing worked. Most annoyingly, it doesn’t happen every time. So you can’t put your finger on it what could cause the problem.

Just to keep this thread going in the hopes of helping other people going through the same issue, I’ve done a few other things now and it seems to have fixed my problem for the time being:

  1. Reverted Nvidia drivers to 572.42 (feb, 13, 2025)
  2. Switched from DBM to bigwigs and littlewigs
  3. Removed my weak auras for mythic+ dungeons and raids
  4. Disabled all choices in options > graphics > compatibility settings (bottom) except for multithread rendering

As of now after doing around 10 mythic+s, heroic raid, some lfr bosses and a bunch of delves no sudden fps freeze experienced yet.

I run a 9950x3D with 64 gb ddr5 6000 cl30 and a 7900 XTX no issues here so far, good luck figuring this out for those that do have issues.

It might help to clear the shader cache so it can recompile the shaders which hopefully fixes the issues you guys having if not lets hope they release a hotfix soon to fix this, people at Blizzard probably have had this issue least couple of times as well if users have these problems.

It’s still a thing - i tried almost all of the suggestions. Sometimes nothing happens for some days, then it starts again. From what i have experienced - it’s always when some kind of special cast happens, mostly when when voids or some stuff on the ground are involved.

After patch 11.1.7 the amount of freezes have become less on my end, but they are still there.

It is still happening in dungeons during intense moments it freezes up and during a run i could die instantly, why does blizzard not look here seeing all these messages? Why hasnt this been fixed for such a longtime?
