A letter has come to the attention of the clerics of Northshire Abbey. The guardsman who reached out with these words to the Brotherhood of Northshire must have abandoned duty and deserted his post in the Marshtide Watch shortly after, as he has not been seen or heard from since.

An old ally of Stromgarde, now acting as an emissary in Stormwind, rode hard to the Thandol Span in search of the famed crusaders in the image of Lordain beyond, that they might better understand and rout out the growing darkness rumoured to have escaped the Temple of Atal’Hakkar.
She brought with her a transcript of the Marshtide Watchman’s letter, which the abbey received just over a week ago.

Shakily, Whateley wrote as follows:
I am G. Whateley of the Marshtide Watch.
I was on post, sometimes looked at that damn troll temple. If only I was on north tonight instead. It would have been someone other’s nightmare. Looked south and saw shadows moving into the temple. Happens sometimes, grave robbers and other wretches. Nothing ever comes of it.
Those shadows, didn’t see where they came from, didn’t see them go. Saw something else leave, though.
Whateley’s handwriting became steadier.
It was a godforsaken flying worm. It bursted through the temple’s entrance atop, size of the Deeprun Tram. Had a maw as big as a barn door. So many eyes looked back at me. I felt like a boy, not a man anymore.
I know that I am cursed now as the hand that writes this letter breaks out in blisters and shakes, and not with pain. I fear to sleep again, that I might once more see their unholy serpent.

The Sir Ortellus called swiftly a collection of able men, made rife with dread at the prospect, of its like he seemed to recognise
and thus a motley party of riders, crusaders, knights and a wizard ride south from the highlands to investigate.
