The Everlook Hotel, Everlook, Winterspringā¦
Archmage Nethersong, retired Harbinger of the Dirge of Teldrassil, sat in front of the fire in her suite, reading a letter from her replacement. It had been delivered along with a small box, that contained a single bar of precious Elunite, which she had immediately had stored in the Dirgeās secure vault. It would soon be used to further the Dirgeās war efforts in some way. But her attention was focused on the letter. It was portentious, if saddening. Another event in the list that had befallen the Dirge.
Vashava rose, and wandered over to her drinks cabinet, and poured herself a large glass of ManaPort. Her mind was cast back to the first report she had gotten on the events since her retirement. The first report had told her of the invasion of the Scourge following the great sky-shatter in Northrend. The undead had poured across the world, and the Dirge had been trapped Stormwind. Theyād fought alongside the Stormwind City Sentury, the Order of Oronaar, and their old allies, the Assemblage of Uld, the League of Modimus and the Sunnyglade Ratters. Eventually, the tide of the dead subsided, and the forces went on their separate ways.
Walking over to the large bay window, Vashava sat down and watched the snowstorm outside, recalling more. The Dirge had returned to Kalimdor, and spent much time there, hunting down the cultists of the mysterious āNetherlordā, a self-titled egomaniac who abused fel magic to the point of physical instability, as well as fighting off encroaching Horde in Ashenvale. Things had changed radically when they discovered a cyphered message from the Netherlord to one of her underlings, and the Dirge had broken it.
The message sent the Dirge across the world, to the Lordaeron. There, they hunted down and defeated a collection of void cultists, who were working on some nefarious and strange dimension-shifting crystal for the Netherlord. However, before they could see to this threat, another reared its head.
A Moonstone of some sort had been discovered by a band of pirates, and was being taken to be given, or perhaps sold, to the Loyalist forces. The Dirge set out to stop this, but were also joined by the Horde in trying to take the Moonstone. Whilst the Loyalists were defeated, so to were the Dirge, and the Eternal Sisterhood made off with the Moonstone.
After the void cultists had been dealt with, the Queensguard once again came into conflict with the Dirge of Teldrassil, at the Writhing Haunt. It was a brutal and difficult battle, and both sides ended bloodied and beaten, but the Loyalists had the advantage of fighting on their home turf, and their allies and sympathizers in Andorhal would not be far off. The Dirge were forced to withdraw, lest they eventually be overrun.
Vashava swirled her ManaPort, and took a long sip, before thinking further. The Dirge had made their way to Stormwind after their retreat, where Warden Nightsong received word that something, possibly Horde, were attacking Bael Modan. Gathering the Assemblage of Uld, and the Sunnyglade Ratters, the three forces set off to Bael Modan using a modified telemancy beacon, in order to end the threat.
The day after the combined force arrived, a large band of Horde attacked Bael Modan. The fight was difficult, but before the Alliance were routed or the Horde repelled, Quillboar Deathspeakers raised the dead of the land, and sent them to attack both sides. Driven into Bael Modan, an uneasy truce was forced between the two sides, in order to combat the undead.
On the second day, the Alliance and Horde had sallied forth and eventually broken the undead forces. Then, the Dirge and Assemblage had struck at the Horde. Their fight from yesterday was not over, merely postponed. The Ratters, however, did not see things in the same way, and retreated from the field of battle. Vashava frowned as she recalled the report detailing that. It was most disappointing. The Dirge and the Assemblage had been forced to flee to Bael Modan, and the gnomish Death Knight, Sidward Spoon had used a mortar to cover them.
It was in the days afterwards, that a great betrayal occurred. One of the Dirge was revealed to have been working with the presumed deceased Ashsaber, Fenaeth Briarheart, spying on the Dirge. He was endeavoring to reach Eluneās Handmaiden, a sacred statue depicting the first High Priestess of Elune, Haidene, for an unknown purpose. The Dirge set out to stop him, and the local warlocks that also sought the statue.
Briarheart was captured, and sent to a Barrow Den, whilst his accomplice, Torlinar Moonset, was captured the day after. In his interrogation, he revealed that Briarheart had ordered Moonset to attempt to kill the Darkcrest Bloodmane, a Death Knight. Vashava shook her head. To have fallen so farā¦
Now, things were perhaps finally settling down to something more sensible. Things could be put right, order restoredā¦ Vashava smiled to herself, as a plan formed in her mind. It would take some time, but this unfortunate turn of events could be moved to the Dirgeās, and her own, advantage. She looked down at the broken amulet sheād left on the windowsill. It was an odd thing, once magical, now broken, and yet at a much later date, drained of that lingering magic. It had been given to Darkcrest Shatterstring by the traitor Briarheart. Vashava concluded that she would further analyise it once she finished her ManaPort. With that decsision made, she turned back to look out the window at the snow storm that raged and swirled, and plotted.
