- Spend the 2 mil gil you got off the Marketboard to buy the furniture to you need anyway

Watched the TV series Around the World in 80 Days (2021).
Since the original book was one of my favorite reads growing up, I was surprised to discover not a straightforward adaptation, but a mostly original story using only the premise and year 1872 setting of the original. Phileas Fogg here has a very different personality from the book, and is basically David Tennant playing David Tennant; at times I half-expected him to take out a sonic screwdriver and start solving problems by Talking Really Fast.
Nonetheless I liked it. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s beautifully shot and I found it worth viewing once.
Here’s the real delight, though: the original character Abigail Fix. Her casting is perfect and her writing is great. She’s the kind of character I didn’t know I was missing in Jules Verne novels, which, owing to the time they were written, don’t have the best track record for memorable female characters. That she was inspired by a real person — Nellie Bly, a reporter who made a 72-day trip around the world mirroring Fogg’s sixteen years after the original book — is just icing on the cake.
Makes me kind of want to RP a high-spirited investigative reporter, myself.

Welcome back! It’s been years!
Thanks, It’s been so long since I’ve last been here. Since they announced a new expac reveal to be going on this month I though i’d see if I was pardoned from Blizz Prison and check up on how the server is.
So how is the server, did it survive the “Exodus.” Did AD finally reach Shangri-La?

Server seems to be ticking along. There’s been some dramas(nothing new), but I think the rp scene is still healthy, if a bit smaller.
I know that a couple of posters(myself included) arent subbed right now though either due to unhappiness with Shadowlands or because of everything that went down/still underway with the lawsuit. Or a bit of both.
I knew about the lawsuit but damn, is Shadowlands really that bad, I know the story is being criticised as confusing and rushed but isn’t the actual content good?

Personally, I don’t like it, and it’s recieved alot of criticism. Some content is nice.
But overall I personally found it to be pretty bad. The main criticism has been the grinds, weird balance issues between covenants and general lack of things to do with almost Legion-like timegating.

Damn, well I hope whatever is being announced this month is going to be better. I don’t like seeing WoW in a bad place even if Blizzard hates me.

Mainly because I have no other MMO with good RP, to flee to
(and i tried final fantasy, its not for me)
Whereas on my part, the more I play and RP in FFXIV, the less I miss WoW. It made me realize, in hindsight, just how barebones and somewhat lazy WoW’s writing and worldbuilding were even at the best of times, let alone now.
What I do miss is the AD RP community, because of the sheer number of good memories and real-life friendships that have sprung from them.
For me it is more so, while blizzard may not treat the RP scene well, they at least care enough to give us dedicated space.
any other current MMO does not have that, a community need to hijack a server for their enjoyment. And I feel awkward rp’ing surrounded by OOC people, its a small thing but I would really like it if more MMOs would just show that much consideration.
also I don’t like the final fantasy setting, the fantasy is to final for me to comprehend.
Had fun opening my merchant’s new shop on FF14. Much profit was made and it’s great when some players let their naive characters be scammed by a money-grubbing lalafell. There were some hilarious moments

My FFXIV character actually got to be an adventurer today, when there were four of us RPing in the Drowning Wench — an archer, a marauder, a conjurer, and a thaumaturge — and the last one decided to DM a completely impromptu D&D-style dungeon crawl event for our party of four. It just fit.
We had a blast, and my character actually got to use a limit break IC. For the first time in her life. It certainly was an eye-opening experience!
