Pet Peeve #INFINITY - Thanos gonna cry

If you get lucky, the ‘RP’ server you are on gets the preffered status and your alt gets ‘road to 70’ or whatever the current version of the buff is, where you only need to do main story quests to level up.

Ah yes, the Lionguard longcoat. Can’t post a link, but google 2014-04-11_00011_1397166148.jpg.

You know what? The Lionguard leather set, period. I want something like that in WoW. The coat? Badass. The hat and mask? Extra badass. Please, Blizzard, make it happen.

Also, peeve: not being able to post links.

I doubt any of the now 3 RP servers will get preferred status any time soon. Balmung is always congested, Mateus is creeping behind and Omega recently lost preferred status.

Even then, I think the “Road to X” buff works for new players and only for 60 days. (Correct me if I’m wrong on this, however)

RP quality has been going off a cliffside, following the trend of Blizzard’s general storywriting.

New characters and for 90 days after the server loses preffered status.

Omega had it the first time I made a character there, but when I got a new main I made it without.

Had I not dropped a bunch of cash on emotes and the A realm reborn skip, I would have rerolled my new main just for the buff.

Meanwhile Lich (An EU server) has had preferred status for literally months now. But it’s population is doing fine.

On the upside, XIV is getting some cross-world capability soon so long as you’re in the same region. Without going full sharding like WoW.

The way player housing and certain other things are done sucks, but I guess it is done due to the ram limitations of the PS3/PS4 compared to the PC.

Not to be ‘that guy’, but FFXIV definately looks to take care of the playerbase with systems like these being implimented. I couldn’t see WoW doing something like this without fully breaking something else as a result.

In what sense do you mean? I think the issue with the player housing is just the lack of serverside space. There’s more players than there are houses/apartments. If they had a few more dedicated servers to these housing phases, it’d balance out and the prices wouldn’t be stupidly high as well.

TESO is on consoles and afaik has effectively unlimited housing.

LOTRO and Star Wars Galaxies had virtually unlimited housing.

There’s no excuse for it save artificial scarcity. I remember hearing about two guys who bought EVERY SINGLE HOUSE on a dead server. Then when that server wasn’t dead there was a huge storm about it.

Honestly? FF14 could at least do with unlimited apartments since you’re not going through halls to get to your apartment in it.

The reason or so I was told that there are a limited amount of wards, is due to the consoles.

Else you’d have a situation where you could make an infinite amount of wards.

Now they could be lying about it being a hard limit on how many wards they can have, and they are just being cheap skates about not adding more.

Yeah they work differently though, your house is your own personal instance, rather than shared with everyone.

They work exactly like a dungeon, rather than like a zone/map.

Given the fact they dropped PS3 support with Stormblood, we can only hope that they’ll push out some more housing wards. (Probably won’t happen until PS5/expansion 7.0 but I can dream)

LOTRO worked similarly with neighbourhoods.

A lot of XIVs faults are really… odd. And I can only assume it’s legacy code from 1.0. Like how everything is character specific, because anything account wide gets mailed to EVERY character you make, which apparently could crash the post server.

I could be massivly wrong but LOTRO didn’t come out on consoles right?

A lot of XIV’s faults may have something to do with it needing to work on less than 256MB RAM and an equal amount for for V-RAM.

That probably has gone up since they dropped the PS3 version.

No but it’s a VERY old MMO and has a fraction of the modern stuff WoW and XIV include. You can probably run LOTRO on a microwave at this point. I can’t imagine it’s so intensive it’d break a PS4.

WoW’s zones just don’t suffice anymore, they’re… so small…

True there, a PS4 has 8gig, LOTRO needs 1-2 gig at minimum with 4gig recomended…

But FF14 was made for the PS3, a lot of the ‘brick work’ of the code is limited by that.

Yeah, but regardless, being able to run the game =/= server capacities or code weirdness.

From what I understand XIV 1.0 had a lot of… weird code, that was reusing a lot of FFXI’s stuff as a basis. And overall was set up really weirdly.

As said, it’s why XIV has the limitations it has I suspect. With spaghetti code on par with WoWs.

So it’s either artificial scarcity, or server limits (Not user end hardware limits). I’m pretty sure it’s the latter as it was the given reason when Yoshi-P was asked about it.

Peeve: hand hurts a lot again since i attempted to finish a drawing i started last week.

At least its finished now;
