“Continuity only exists to enhance a story, not to tie the hands of the creators.”
Essentially it doesn’t really matter what we get given from one medium, it can (and inevitably will be) ignored by Blizzard writers whenever someone gets a sherbet-filled idea popping into their head about “HOW AWESOME” it will be to do “THIS COOL THING”.
It’s clearly obvious the majority of players don’t really care (unless it’s something blatantly, painfully obvious - like MORALLY GREY) So it’s only really us RPers who suffer from staccato storytelling and lore.
Because there are a hundred different reasons why a character might not be doing what -someone elses- player wants them to be doing at that precise moment in time. The issue boils down to RP being a collaborative venture, if no middle ground can be met between players, then don’t bother honestly.
The -problem- players are those that invite themselves into other peoples rp (especially planned rp) with the sole intention to deliberately cause as much trouble for the players on the other end, usually under some disingenuous pretext of “oh well we’re just making rp!” said individuals are quite prominent on both sides of the divide, although seem more obviously visible on Horde due to the lower numbers.
It’s even more worthy when said biggest offenders at one point were very much “hey guys if we’re organising rp u need our permission to do things” and practically demanded every other player on their faction followed their narrative of events, to the point of ridicule and mockery for those who wanted to not jump the gun.
I demand updated totems for all races… Kinda unfair that only Draenei (Which I still think makes no sense in being shamans) get one… Even better allow Shaman players to actually get different totems and be able to choose or get the option to custom our own totems already.
Bloody fix Female Pandaren model Blizzard. It’s painful to look at the model bow with the seemingly broke neck textures. Also in the future once you decide to remember that Pandaren players do exist… Give us different faces instead of the same facials but different fur pattern’n’sh!t.
Kinda race that’s low on Blizzard’s pecking order sadly bud. If they do anything with Pandaren, they could start by actually implementing some post-MoP lore, explaining the faction leaders… something. For now, it’s sitting on the end of a boat in Boralus for Pandaren faction leaders whilst John J. Keeshan gets more screentime as some bizarre Shandris love interest. I sympathise with your plight.
No belt from Garrosh again, I’ve been farming it for weeks, its the only piece i need to finish my draenei’s mog.
only a small pet peeve though, since I got my fist weapon 2nd try. But that’s kind of how my luck folds out. Either i get it with less than 3 tries, or I spend months farming.
I’d argue we aren’t the creators. Blizz let us play in the world they have built and in the story they tell. If you wanna roleplay in Blizz’s world you gotta play by Blizz’s rules IMO.
The fact Blizz retcons things does not mean RPers should be selectively choosing what is and is not canon.
It’s not about what someone wants someone else’s character to be doing, it’s playing one’s character in accordance with the setting Blizz provide for us. An Orc Grunt may well feel justified in harassing people for not fulfilling their Blood Oath. Again, the Horde is a military dictatorship where every single member is oath-bound to fight and die for their Warchief and things are so desperate that the Horde is going to alternate realities for reinforcements… The setting Blizz provides us tells us that the Horde practice conscription, ie forcible recruitment into the military. What IC reason does your character have for avoiding such a fate? You may not want it to happen OOC but you need a reason to justify it, like you need a reason to justify anything, IC. As I previously mentioned, civilian traders were outfitting troops for the Broken Shore. Is your bakery now having to produce bread for the footmen? Do the Alliance pay you fairly for such a service? There’s a tonne of options that ought to be explored, and the state of the world as Blizz describe absolutely should be a driving force behind anyone’s RP.
Causing IC hassle for OOC reasons is a terrible thing to do, I agree. But a Grunt pestering a lowlife in the tavern for not helping out the war effort may well be purely IC.
I’ve told this story several times on this forum and I shan’t do so at length again, but this is what happened to Defias Brotherhood before it died. A clique of “powerful” players dictated the servers RP and enforced their headcannon on everyone and if you didn’t go along with it, you couldn’t RP.
However. This is vastly different to expecting people to go along with Blizz’s version of events. I absolutely will ridicule and mock people who refuse to adhere to WoW’s setting. Remember the guy who was RPing as Garrosh Hellscream, Warchief of the Horde, out in public a few months back? An extreme example but it’s still the same thing.
