Pet Peeve: The Undying

I still get pumped watching that Dragon Age 2 trailer where he fights the Arishok on the steps.

Dragon Age 2 really handled the climax moments of every chapter amazingly. The deep roads was alright, but the Arishok, the serial killer, and the finale was all -very- well crafted.

The big “oof” moment when you’re siding with the mages but realize that the serial killer was actually in written contact with Orsino the whole time

Except for Orsino going nutso even if you sided with mages, which they apparently did 'cos they felt they needed another boss, but that wasn’t a big deal for me tbh.

Yeah wasn’t a fan of Orsino going full blood mage and turning into an abomination for no real reason.

Inquisition committed the worst sin a videogame can.

It made me want to play World of Warcraft rather than it.

Meredith made alot more sense as a final boss for DA2 honestly. You saw her rising insanity more laid out and the effects of red lyrium with the templars ties in well into Inquisistion.

Bit of a Dragon age pet peeve I just remembered:

I would have liked to see the architect return from awakening. I guess they forgot about him and the sentient darkspawn.

Say what you will about DA2, but it does morally grey better than WoW ever could.

Meredith may be a cow who treats the mages of Kirkwall like trash and is ridiculously over-zealous in her persecution of them, but in the end she’s also right because it turns out that blood magic is rife throughout the city, and these particular mages are in need of being put down.
Orsino may be a nice bloke who is standing up for a bunch of oppressed people but it turns out that there’s a very good reason for mages in Kirkwall to be viewed with suspicion and in the end, his very actions against those who discriminate against mages provide a form of justification for their persecution.
And worst of all, no one can really help the situation because the endless amounts of suffering that took place in Kirkwall beneath Imperial rule forever tainted the Fade there, which has a detrimental impact on the sanity of any magical inhabitant of the city.

There’s absolutely no ‘right side’ there and whatever outcome you aim for, it’s not a ‘good ending’ unless you overlook the moral ambiguity and mindlessly glue yourself to one faction over another.

Dragon Age’s morality was always more leaning toward Freedom vs Safety rather than good vs evil, with a few other conflicts here and there.

DA2 also dealt with politics quite interestingly in game, with the Ferelden refugees, with the viscount and corruption in the city etc. Alot of there story did have plenty of nuance

Its also in a medium that’s much much easier to write for in a setting designed from the ground up to have that sort of game written in it.

Also that the Qunari just rock up and sit in the city and no one has the balls to take them on.

Except that one dwarf who wanted Qunari gunpowder, lol

I absolutely adored the arcane warrior build in DA:O. The inquisition one was just an utter disappointment and I was sad that you couldn’t be a melee mage hawke either.

Knight-Enchanter a disappointment? Only because it broke the difficulty curve over your magically enhanced knees. Soloing dragons 5 levels above me? Don’t mind if I do!

Also a very powerful story choice for dalish mages.

I didn’t like the oversized one handed anime cleaver from it. Otherwise kinda cool. Should have been able to equip regular melee weapons.

I took the Nevarran necromancer spec for Inquisistion.

Holy heck was I wrong, it was extremly weak compared to the others.

I always go with Rift mage. It just seems the most fitting for the Inquisitor + it works well for romancing Solas.

Solas was so smooth in his pick-up lines, like holy frick
