Finallly finished FF7 Remake. Definitely felt very modern Nomura in that last chapter. Very bold and very confusing.
But I’m in for the ride, so let’s go Nomura release that part 2 ASAP.

I’ve not played FF7R yet so I’m probably going to be spoilered at some point, BUT -
Theorywise, I’m half convinced that FF7R is set using the parallel world/alternate time-line trope animu is so fond of utilizing, (and tbh every other form of media these days based on what I’ve watched/read recently) and I would not be surprised if Cloud, Aerith or other characters connected to the lifestream begin to exhibit some form of deja vuu, potentially leading to minor or major plot changes, such as the circumvention of particular characters dying.
As FF7 has been out since forever, I don’t really think FF7 spoile- okay fine, I’ll be considerate of people who’ve never played the original. I suspect instead of a particular character having a martyr moment, there’ll be a ‘no, we can all do this together!’ attitude moment so prevalent in shonen animu, and everyone will save the day together.
I’m probably far out but that’s my guess so far.
Suppose I’d also wager a guess that said character who ordinarily succumbs to self-sacrifice is repeating the same timeline over and over again until something changes.

It ends with the party defeating the embodiment of destiny and leaving Midgar with the thematic implication that the story will change going forwards from the original. It’s indicated that Aerith and Sephiroth know what’s fated to come on the grand scale, with Red having some insight too. Not clear if it’s a parallel timeline or whatever.
So yeah your guess isn’t far off. Will it mean Aerith still dies? Maybe maybe not, but it’s definitely the right choice imho. She doesn’t know the minutiae, that much is clear - she’s not omniscient about everything, she’s still only met Cloud for the first time, etc., so she’s not reliving the timelines over and over.

FF7 Remake Spoilers
I still don’t get what the implications are with the Zack thing. I mean I get that if fate is destroyed and it was forcing Zack into his inevitable demise, then he would survive. But what does that mean going forward?
I kind of don’t want him to turn up but it seems like too big a deal just to be a nice nod to the fans.
Also I feel like that ending will be really difficult to follow for players with no context of the original/Crisis Core.

Zack’s a weird point for sure. Some speculation it’s an(other) alternate timeline he survives in since there’s a different Stamp mascot apparently. It might just be for a spinoff but idk what they’d really do with him in a spinoff. Maybe 40 years from now they’ll make FF7RemakeRemake starring survivor Zack.
FF7R’s timeline doesn’t seem to get retconned to have him live after the fight, so that’s the only thing I can think of honestly.
I think it’s fine that the ending’s not exactly clear for people with no knowledge of OG/CC - they’ll touch on it later no doubt, when Cloud’s delusions are cleared up.

Not really a spoiler, but I think people had different outfits for Tifa during the Corneo segment depending on a dialogue choice earlier in the game. She ended up looking like Chun Li for me but I’ve seen her in other outfits I think.
There’s 3 dresses for each of them. One of the chivos is to use postgame chapter select to unlock all 9. They’re based primarily on how many sidequests you do in chapter 3 (Tifa), 8 (Aerith) and 9 (Cloud) apparently, but Tifa’s also lets you choose if you do all the sidequests in C3.

Just started chapter 16 (made it inside the Shinra building before going to bed) so will hopefully be finishing it up today or tomorrow.
Been amazing so far and I’ll be sad to be done with it - guess I’ll have to give Hard Mode a go at some point.
My only gripe has been the texture issues people have already spoken about, but in Chapter 15, what the hell is with the 2D backgrounds of Midgar? They look absolutely terrible, almost like they’re from the original game (where they actually looked good).
That was my only major gripe too. Some of those Midgar backdrops looked pretty awful if you really stopped to look at them. Like low res jpegs in some instances.
But apart from that the game looks stunning, despite a few low res objects here and there and some weirdly last gen looking NPCs.
The soundtrack was a bit hit or miss for me, mainly hitting but some of the tracks got repetitive and annoying real quick. When it hits though boy does it hit.
