Pet peeves: The return (Part 1)

Untrue. I found plenty of random world RP in ESO. The only problem is that it’s all in German. Really big German RP scene over there.

Only german my slavic roots taught me is “hände hoch” so

So a while back, Nintendo was in talks with Netflix to do a live action Zelda adaptation.
Netflix, apparently deliberately, leaked this in breach of NDA to generate hype.
So Nintendo cancelled that project and some others with other companies (including a claymation StarFox project with College Humor) because basically it breached trust and they got protective of the IPs.

for the best honestly

what were they gonna do, make a series about link throwing bombs in increasingly absurd ways to solve puzzles?

Lampoil, rope, bombs? It’s yours my friend.

I’d watch that.

Unrelated peeve: Just finished catching up with the Expanse. I thought S5 was the end but apparently they’re renewed for a 6th season. I am the fool.

I am always on fence about netflix announcing some series, animated or not, based on something that I like… more often than not it is a monkeypaw.

Witcher is a good example. I like it overall, but christ does it have a lot of problems too.

I think the Witcher is really good for what it is, a fun action adventure kinda thing with an overarching plot but also plots that got resolved in their respective episodes

I think people were expecting a very serious and grounded, early GoT-style thing. Instead we got an incredibly silly and light-hearted romp that reminds me more of BBC’s Merlin, or one of the dozens on 90’s fantasy adventure shows. The genie episode and the dragon episode are perfect examples of this.

I kind of love it.

I really enjoyed it too!

Though the weird plastic duct-tape armour the evil empire was using was a bit odd. Did they run out of budget?

I wasn’t expecting anything like GoT to be fair. Witcher games have a lot of goofy momens and dry/dark humour, so that is not my issue. My issue is mostly with some of the characters being almost entirely rewritten and being not recognizable at all. Vilgefortz and Triss Merigold specifically stand out really oddly because neither of their characters are what they are supposed to be: Vilgefortz is supposed to be a ruthless, selfish mage so it’s rly odd to see him as being this benevolent mage-father figure in the conclave. Equally, Triss is supposed to be a headstrong, reckless and fiery persona, whereas in the series she is timid, quiet and dutiful… Also we never see her cast a single fire spell, while pyromancy is literally her forte.

Magic in the setting works really oddly in general- Nothing like how it works in the books or the games either. Also I won’t even mention the whole Ciri thing.

Then there is the whole Nilfgaard wearing…Uhh veiny armor when they are supposed to be wearing late-medieval gothic style- Thankfully the guy who made that decision was fired.

Witcher series is perfect I would change nothing about it except for making Yenn/Jaskier/Geralt a canon throuple

I think it’s intentionally meant to look cheap/mass produced, but it is being changed in series 2 to look better

Jaskier is cute, charming and really funny.

And okay! Makes a bit more sense even if the design choice was wonky.

Just how

Does anyone know if there is a thread somewhere with a list of guilds / players that roleplay in the Shadowlands?

My government : In order to curb the rising numbers of alcohol related accidents because of the curfew of 6PM we mandated we shall prohibit any drinking at 3PM in public zones.

Everyone : Drinks heavily outside those hours

Me : People who were already engaging in it were probs jobless people who had nothing going for them to begin with. You just moved the problem to a different hour.

True to life, I suppose in many cases. I just with they didn’t insist that it’s this big intimate bonding that lets you know each other completely only for it to never be shown nor relevant.

Instead it’s treated like any old game mechanic cuz’ it is and relevant story hooks fall off completely. Niya’s super sad that her grove died so it’s be good and healthy to have something to do! Let’s fuse her with this planewalking murderhobo.

To say nothing of Kleia/Pelagos’ sibling-like bond that’s gone on forever that you’re just thrust into. Two of the same “family” in an awkward union with a relative stranger and we still have to ask our blue boy for backstory or find out snippets of who Kleia really was/is (apparently pretty arrogant before becoming super helpful) via world quest nuggets. It’s just such a big thing to write and develop that shoving Player into it is a disservice. Especially if they insist on ignoring us actually knowing their stories.

It’d be nice if there was a thing like pandaria’s scenarios we must fight through and learn their stories in the process of earning the bond.

So to keep myself busy during lockdown, I decided to start writing a cross-over story between world of warcraft and the witcher universe, just for fun. Only it’s starting to get way longer and longer than I had originally thought. I still like working on it, but damn, it might become quite big.
