Pet peeves: The return (Part 1)

The Starter Set is perfect - it has a solid adventure, cool premade characters (actually cool ones!), as well as a guide to the city of Ubersreik and a lot of locations and NPCs for it to use in your own adventures, and during the adventures included!

I’m kind of tempted to maybe set up a play-by-post sort of thing up sometime considering it’ll still be a while before I get to play with my group again :pensive:

Okay a really pretty (but actually rp related for once!) peeve here:

Like I dont blame anyone for doing this at all, but I get a bit sad when you’re trying to generate some buzz/interest in a bit of spontaneous eventing, and people say “Just get [X canon NPC faction] to deal with it?”

It’s a totally understandable ic response, and it can be a good excuse to excuse yourself if you need to OOC, but I’m always dismayed when people throw up rp blockers like that; I mean come on folks, if I just up and got the Earthern Ring on speed dial every time there was a crisis, there’d be no RP left for us!

My monitors are delayed yet again I am starting to get annoyed

It’s the ol’ Superman/Elminster problem. “Why do we need to do anything to help when they’re so much stronger+better+faster?”

And the usual, best answer is “they’re busy doing other saviour stuff”.

I remember one Adventurers League game where my character, a wizard who had just reached level 11, was utterly scared of going on a suicide mission to save the world from the demon prince Graz’zt.

“Why do we even have to do this? Let Elminster handle it!”

And one of the other characters replied: “Today, we are Elminster.”

Actually you’re almost correct. Blizzard originally approached games workshop to make a Warhammer 40k game, and they were apparently really close to making it happen, but the negotiations fell through and Blizzard decided to just salvage the project… Which we call Starcraft today. This is why the Zerg look almost identical to Tyranids and Terran marines look very similar to space marines.

As you can imagine, this decision haunts the games workshop to this date.

Wasn’t the whole Azshara and the burning legion story a re-purposed Warhammer story as well?

I’ve not read the book, is there actually any new interesting lore in it or just a repeat of what the quests told already?

Most of that grief is due to people not understanding that WHFB was a dead and dying game when GW shot it in the back of the head. I witnessed first hand WHFB stock literally rotting on shelves because nobody was buying it.

Sure they could’ve done it a different way, but the hard reboot and restyling that AoS gave GW means they can just churn out armies even more fantastical than WHFB could ever have had.

I won’t play it though, I have a hard enough time keeping up with WH40k’s whirlwind pace since 7th edition to now, but I will buy the occasional AoS model to paint.

I’ve kind of had the opposite in that I’ve gravitated away from 40k and just mostly get AoS stuff - the only 40k-related things I really buy, still, is Necromunda things.

I wasn’t really into AoS when it first released but in the build up to 2nd edition I got sucked into it and it’s really boosted my overall enjoyment of the hobby and my hobby-related productivity!

I must admit I’m guilty of this.

One of my characters (A belf and a velf who’s the same char IC) is an Elf from Quel’thalas, however she’s sort of an enigmatic person, a mercenary who operates under neutrality (filthy, I know) and likes to keep her real eye colour concealed using enchanted contact lenses when traversing the world to appear as a Belf in Horde territory and a Helf in Alliance territory to avoid risk of being caught up in faction-related issues, believing that the common joe won’t be able to tell the difference.

(Though of course this isn’t foolproof in the slightest, anyone even remotely good at detecting magic can see through the lenses and tell that she’s a Belf at her core.)

I’ve been pondering on what’s the right course of action here when it comes to referring to her race in my TRP. I want to try and keep the enigmatic guess to her real eye colour but I’m unsure on what exactly to call her in the TRP. Do I just refer to her as Elven? A Quel’thalas Elf? Or do I just wipe out any of the enigmatic guessing and just refer to her as a Sin’dorei in the TRP regardless of what eye colour she appears with at the time as due to her contact lenses?

‘Thalassian’, maybe? Or that + Elf?

I was going to run a hardcore Necromunda campaign before the lockdowns started, using the Dark Uprising rules. Cannibal butcher-cults hunting down the hardass survivors in a locked down hive. Would they escape, or would they become meat for the butcher’s block?!

But then the lockdown happened and that shot my campaign dead. My butcher boys are going hungry.

In other hobby stuff I’m considering getting a High Grade gundam kit but i can’t decide what one to get.

Thalassian works surprisingly well, I’m not sure why it didn’t ever click to me.

Necromunda is so damn cool. Nice pseudo-RPG ruleset, gangs that all look really unique from one another, and cool narratives that frankly draw from the best bits of 40k’s (human related) lore if you ask me.

Painting a board was my lockdown project - just the stuff from Dark Uprising, really. I’ve got a painted Enforcer gang, Corpse-Grinders, Escher (with Death Maidens and a converted Ulanti noble!) to paint, and a Delaque gang being painted at the moment, as well as some mercs. I’ve got a Genestealer Cult Kill Team I can use for it as well! I’m planning on bashing up an Escher chem doctor soon-ish, and maybe some Water Guild members later, and a bodyguard for the Ulanti noble. So many possibilities!

I personally just go with ‘Night Elf/Blood Elf’ etc in my TRPs but I get the need for some secrecy in that occasion, and I think that’s the easiest way of referencing to the character being one of those kinds of elves (from Quel’thalas)!

I also don’t put race sometimes or even class 'cause then it keeps people from metagaming :>

For the most part I have my Goliaths, in their gnarly industrial yellow and SWEATY WRESTLER vibe, some Enforcers, Escher, Corpse Grinders… I want one of each gang though.

Slave Ogryns look -really- fun to paint. Half tempted to make them a Norf FC meme team in matching red jumpsuits.

I’m in a similar spot where I’d like one of each gang, they’re all just really cool. I think Slave Ogryns are cool, too, but if I get any I’ll probably just get a set of two to use as hanger-ons.

The thought of making a Venator gang is pretty exciting as well - made up entirely of bounty hunters and the likes, so conversions and kitbashes aplenty to make that!

The easiest solution, I think, would be to have a duplicate TRP profile. Everything similar except on the velf-character it says “Quel’dorei/High elf” (however you want to write it) and on the belf it says “Sin’dorei/Blood elf”
