They absolutely go for those as well.
The gameâs art style doesnât really appeal to me but hearing people talk about how great the RP community for it is had me interested, I looked around a bit even without getting the game and it was all just
I heard GW2 has similliar issues in its rp community.
Swtor has some of it as well, mostly imperial side.
ESO apparantly too alongside a whole barrage of other things.
I keep hearing âRP is great thereâ but I also keep hearing that a huge portion of people RP in it like its a weird dating game and that super turns me off.
I tried to make RP in ESO work for over three years. Quitting it entirely and not bothering anymore has genuinely improved my mental health at this point, Iâm quite confident - absolutely awful community imo
Ditto.
I tried to dip into it with my friends a bit in the past, but we went back to WoW in the end. But Iâve heard from alot of people that it isâŚdifficult to say the least.
Apparantly not only basically Goldshire, but alot of headcanon and various ârulesâ some other rpers dictates & you need approval from to even attempt to get anywhere.
Itâs a very small community on EU especially that only really seems to stick to a few particular areas (incidentally the most bland ones, IMO), very not friendly towards newcomers, and most people are generally not interested in any concepts you might draft that may take them too far away from their favorite player-made bar that they like going to for bar + dating rp
also that one time people got mad at me for being mean to a teacher who was rping jade witchery with a character the age of his students, that was fun
What?
That is just, not really much words for it.
What was it that made it so bad?
The sex pest aquaintence of mine is a potato.
Who likes chasing Fem-Roes.
Horrible
Also, Iâve seen mostly tavern RP in FF. There was one FC RPing in the middle of Southern Thanalan, but they were not RPing in English, so no idea what that was about.
EDIT: I THINK they were having an emote battle 9had their weapons drawn, was advancing etc.), but as said, wasnât in English so couldnât understand
I mentioned some stuff above but some key things;
- Very small community that similarly is not very welcoming to newcomers at all, primarily because people arenât interested in RPing with people outside of their own small circle
- Most people seem primarily interested in bar/dating/second life rp primarily
- The game doesnât have different servers and instead uses sharding, therefore OOC networking is key - unfortunately the people running the de-facto RP hub for EU (and the only real EU community, tbh) were, last I know, not at all interested in expanding it, hosting things for the community, or anything outside of their own personal rp circles at all
- Similarly, the EU RP community hub canât even be found by google by looking for âelder scrolls online roleplayâ (at least for the first eighteen pagesâŚ). People find a general hub for all platforms/servers but itâs mostly NA focused and also features people telling EU players to just play on NA if they want RP
- Very limited interests in anything outside of the general area of High Rock. Like Morrowind? Tough luck. Think Redguard lore is cool? Enjoy only getting to talk about it against Bretons that think youâre weird. Love Argonian lore? Sorry babe, the furry nudist island community is the only place available for people interested in the lizard lot
- Your âspeechâ pattern when writing in Discord isnât up to some peopleâs liking? Prepare to have people talk smack on you for it either at you or behind your back - which would be less of a problem if the community wasnât as tiny as it is
- A significant portion of the community doesnât care for the setting at all and plays it mostly as a generic fantasy setting (or low fantasy, even) and readily admits that theyâd switch to another MMO more up to their low fantasy tastes in a heartbeat if it was there
Thereâs a lot of more specific things and grievances I personally have with it overall, but I donât really want to see this thread getting magically vanished tbh. After having yet another personal plot suggestion get turned down because someone found someone that could cater more to their ERP-y desires rather than adventuring, exploration, and IC lore-digging my motivation just kind of shattered and I gave up on it all, as much as (or perhaps because of how) I love the setting
Before that I had people actively going out of their way to try and sabotage things I was running or setting up, on an OOC level, for one reason or another, usually related to how they feared itâd impact their OOC power over others lol
Like almost all the cool stuff in that setting?
Precisely.
High Rock has uh⌠witches, numidium and adamantine tower? But numidium is in Morrowind in the 2nd era so far as I remember soâŚ
Yeah it has witches and druids which is cool - but nobody uses those, of course. The nobility, on the other hand⌠ho boy, people sure love that :~)
You could do a cool story with Breton nobility messing with each other.
But I wouldnât trust most RPers to pull it off in a non awful way.
Well, iâd sure be happy to RP with anybody on the Chaos data centre in FF14 if anybody is game.
Maybe we can go on an adventure and get lost in the middle of a zone.
