It was originally meant to be an MMO of some kind, but the project got canned.
It’s one of the nails in the coffin that led to Metzen leaving the company.

watching a chillstream of people chatting over fire emblem gameplay and they’re all talking FF14 and it’s making me want to resub again
unless there’s content you actually want to do, wait until 5.55 and only resub when there’s meaningful story content added to the game.
Nothing wrong with subbing just so you can play through the latest MSQ/dungeon/trial/raid/relic content once and then unsub again.
That’s not that far off.
I do have some story content from 5.4 I’ve not done, pretty sure, plus older stuff like Dalmasca. It’s not like I’d have ~no~ content.
I can wait. Maybe.
Maybe I sub tomorrow.
Most of it is stuff you can just do in a couple of days, isn’t it? It’s not like a CERTAIN OTHER SUBSCRIPTION-BASED GAME which time-gates half of its main story behind weeks of reputation-grindng and the gathering of other resources.
Probably yeah, but with my casual gameplay speed I’ve got enough things I want to do in 14 that I won’t run out before my 1 month expires, but equally I won’t feel like I have to stay subbed to get it done.
Truly a chill game.
I would argue there is some level of gating involved, because you still do need to hit an item level requirement to run the tie in dungeons.
I suspect for the average player that level is not especially difficult to reach, I’m only having trouble because I have very little time and can’t spend it at the moment sitting in dungeons queues for the MSQ.
I’m hoping there is some form of catch up mechanic when the expansion drops in November, otherwise I don’t know how I’m going to start the new content.
This is almost entirely a me problem though.
it basically took me 2 weeks of doing; leveling queue, 50/60/70 queue, trials queue and raid queue daily to gear up to 490.
EDIT: Can be done faster if you do the alliance raid and the main scenario, but i didn’t.
Also didn’t have the 80 roulette open on that character.
Yeah so not overly rough for the average player then. I’m just unlucky because I’m super limited at the moment. MMO’s are not designed with players like me in mind, to be fair.
I priced up how much it would be to buy the required gear from the market board and it was something like 1.4 million.
I mean, if you logged in and did the 50/60/70 and the levelling roulette, that’d be 220 tomes a day, in 2 days, you could buy any gear piece that wasn’t chest or legs.
And that’s just 2 dungeons a day so less than an hour.
Not only that, but I’d also say that the lore and gameplay are actively playing against one another. Nevermind the lack of story, it is simply impossible to care about the lore when characters that are supposedly sworn enemies in the lore can still end up on the same team. Sure they give a token “grr I can’t believe I have to work with you” line to them, but that is a flimsy excuse to let such things happen.
I still believe that this should have been a single player/co-op game first and foremost, even if the pvp component would be the main focus in the end. Or better yet, should have just made a movie/series out of it instead.
Assuming the dungeon pops quickly. At the moment I can only get on around 10pm UK time, and that time of day the queue’s are atrocious for DPS. I’m waiting around 30 mins at a minimum.
It’s certainly doable. I’m just trying to use my limited time for things where I’m not spending most of it queueing, or playing Civ with a friend.
Atm it feels like most things I like in media are trying to up my salt levels. I just want to have some fun times. Why must it be like this?
Sounds very likely, shame everything activision touches is doomed to be a CoD support studio.
Did they say this? Because initially they said all cosmetics from Overwatch would follow into OW2
Very fair and very true.
Can relate. It’s… frustrating, to say the least
Peeve: The existential dread setting in when I am just trying to get my night’s sleep.
I am not religious, but I sure hope the religious people are right.
a work colleague just told me that he doesn’t like david tennant and it has honestly ruined my day
can’t even talk to him anymore
Let’s just camp out together in the salt corner. ._.
I just bought a full set of 510 gear from marketboard
I hate it.
I worked out how much it would cost me and it was something like 1.5 million gil.
I have 150k. The reason being that I had to jump through an earlier item level gate in 5.3 and spent all of my gil to get through there.
