Pet peeves: The return (Part 1)

So what I’d personally do is add Shield when you level, add Mage Hand and swap Shocking Grasp for either Light or Dancing Lights (both are good and do the job). If you can learn another spell, go for Comprehend Languages but don’t prepare it - just have it in the spell book so you can ritual cast it when you need to, like with Find Familiar.

So I have two spells to choose and an additional cantrip because I’ll be going school of illusion, which would immediately grant me minor illusion but since I already have it I’m allowed to select any other cantrip from the list.

Any reason to have both Mage Armour and Shield?

I think it’s meant to be a lot more casual than either fhe first Chivalry or Mordhau, so hopefully that will discourage people to be so sweaty like in those games. It’s just dumb fun most of the time, but I only played the beta on playstation. Mordhau was dumb fun too back at launch so who knows.

The maps I played were really good too. Graphics and sound are impressive. It was neat that the Dualsense’s triggers were utilised for bow shooting.

They do similar but slightly different things. Mage Armour is just your baseline ‘not fall over to a stiff breeze’ spell that lasts all day, so you can just cast it and forget about it. Should put you to the 15-16 AC mark on its own which is enough to avoid a decent amount of attacks.

Shield is your ‘oh no’ spell that will save your life when a frost giant comes for you (because it can turn a hit into a miss). Because it lasts until your next turn, it’s particularly great against multi-attacking enemies or groups - you dodge one hit, then have 20/21 AC which at this early stage is effectively unhittable.

Makes sense. Self preservation is my characters whole deal at the moment so that seems appropriate to choose.

You can go without having both, but without Mage Armour you will need to be very careful at positioning yourself so you don’t get targeted and without Shield you may occasionally get squished by a powerful hit.

If you’re facing spells more often than attacks, then Absorb Elements will be better because it will instantly halve any elemental damage you take.

Another good wizard spell later too is misty step. Helps you blink away from hard hitting enemies.

IMO it’s a lot better. Mordhau may have a more in depth combat system and stuff like that. But it lacks the sheer chaos and silliness of Chivalry. Chivalry is just madness in combat with people screaming and laughing while everything from barrels, poop, live chickens and gold flies around. The weapons in Chiv also feel a lot heavier and more impactful than Mordahu.

Also the community isn’t a toxic mess like in Mordhau.

This is a big thing that makes me actually want to try it tbh.

As fun as the moment to moment gameplay is actually interacting with the playerbase makes me not want to play Mordhau.

It is, until it’s not and that’s how I broke my piwawfi because I forgot it breaks in sunlight. And then it becomes good again in the last two chapters when ALL IS DARK again.

Ravens (and other Corvids) are superior to the Strigidae (Latin word for the family of true owls) and I am totally not biased towards ravens on account of my characters cover name being Corvus (from Corvus Corax aka Raven). Little trickster death omens > nerdy symbols of knowledge

Owls are boring and that’s why Avarice (who you’ll meet later) is superior to Vellyne (who you’ll also meet later probably).

Is broken and that’s a fact

In my D&D campaign I have to make heavy use of breath weapons and such because otherwise the wizard pretty much cannot be hit

Yeah I can see why, considering we have one with a staff of shielding (I think that’s what its called) in the party and she never gets hit, its fantastic. While I get hit by anything as much as looking in my direction (15 AC is fun guys).

I do get my laughs whenever a Dex-Save has to be rolled though, god I love being a rogue.

The Underworld Cerberus breathing out molten rock - that then hardens and needs an athletics check or breaking with attacks to escape being restrained - was a really cool encounter though.

Will have to see how many more of those I can come up with

In last campaign I played a Halfling Shepherd druid. Pretty fun to play around with totems and summons. Abuse the action economy & flanking!

Also very amusing to see our melee heavy hitters miss due to unfortunate rolls before running up and whacking the enemy with a really hard stick thanks to shillelagh.

We also learned that while Avernus is a pretty fun campaign(Not done yet so no spoilers), the first early levels and first dungeon is pretty weirdly balanced(Fireball enemies at lvl 1-2 and alot of combat).

Funnily enough we did an avernus campaign, and our DM threw the book out after we went back into hell because he was fed up with the canon storytelling

I think there was a squirrel archmage in the actual book and it only gets worse
