Pet peeves: The return (Part 1)

MCU mostly interested me for stucky and now spideytorch

i know im not going to get neither but it’s still quite annoying how blatant the queerbaiting in tfatws was and how dumb endgame was

My peeve about the fantastic 4 is that ‘Mr Fantastic’ has at least one doctorate.

I have a few friends with PhDs and every single one of them use every possible opportunity to put letters after their name and love it when you call them doctor

yes but reed richards is useless, so he doesn’t deserve Dr Fantastic

Venture Bros Professor Impossible has thoroughly ruined fantastic 4 for me in the best way

Dr Fantastic sounds like it could be an unlisenced physician from the Simpsons.

doesn’t tony stark have doctorates as well

My Cloud in a dress figure appears to be worth twice the value of the box I bought.

This is apparently how I win at life.

He probably does; fiction writers like to say ‘oh this person has 8 PhDs’ to make them seem smart when that just means they have several extremely niche interests and won’t have been able to even put proper detail in to anything other than that extreme niche - a PhD takes several years to complete - let alone publish any papers of worth

Depending on how your DM handles the module and what choices your group makes then I can only recommend anything fire related is good :smug:

I was thinking of grabbing burning hands for one of my spell slots. I like that spell a lot, the range is an issue but I’m sure it will be useful for ambushes and what not.

Just need to decide on a cantrip and another spell. For a cantrip I’m leaning towards message or dancing lights since I’m a human.

Second spell maybe catapult based on the suggestion here. Otherwise maybe something like fog cloud.

What do you have at the minute? There are a ton of spells so I can help narrow down the ones that suit you best

A very based choice, we had our warlock use that until our DM graciously gave me a pair of Goggles of Night. Now everyone can see in the dark!

I mean Catapult falls under the fun category, but why not pick fun+usefull

Here’s the character sheet:

He’s going school of illusion for reference.

https://ddb.ac/characters/48069579/ag2L2J

It’s especially based since we’re doing Rime of the Frostmaiden and a big part of that is night lasts most of the day, so seeing in the dark is kind of a big deal.

Sucks for me though since I chose a raven as my familiar and he can’t see :poop: when I send him scouting.

I avoided Owl because it was a normie choice and Raven felt more thematic with a trickster mage

I can confirm that Chivalry 2 is indeed fun. I have managed to kill two people by throwing horse poop at their faces while screaming “Your mom” jokes.

So my D&D beyond doesn’t like that character sheet but

Generally it’s best not to have too many damage spells - 1 normally does the trick, along with maybe a backup if they’re immune to the first. Things like taking Fireball and Lightning Bolt, because the chances of a monster being immune to both fire and lightning is incredibly small but the chances of a random monster being immune or resistant to one is decent.

Silent Image is decent as an early-game illusion spell but doesn’t scale up with spell level like most spells.

Shield will Save Your Life and is practically mandatory - Mage Armour a little less mandatory but still extremely good. Absorb Elements is also a good defensive option if you’re facing traps rather than swords.

Magic Missile is boring but also extremely effective. Burning Hands or Catapult are both solid damage options, and as you’re playing Rime I would think that hands is going to be good (but I don’t know either way).

Comprehend Languages is helpful for a lot of puzzles and can be ritual cast so doesn’t need to be prepared.

Cantrip wise, apart from the obvious damage spell cantrip like Firebolt I would recommend some combination of Dancing Lights/Light, Create Bonfire, Mage Hand, Mending, and Minor Illusion. Hard to go wrong with any of those. If stealth/setting up ambushes is important, then Message is amazing.

How does it compare to Mordhau?

Okay so the spells I currently have are:

Silent Image
Detect Magic
Disguise Self
Find Familiar
Magic Missile (wanted Chromatic Orb but couldn’t afford the diamond)
Mage Armour

Cantrips:

Fire Bolt
Minor Illusion
Shocking Grasp

If allowed later, get Tasha’s mind whip. Its very cool and powerful. Multitarget, decent damage and applies a stronger version of slow to all enemies who fail it.

I am allowed. My DM added those spells to the list last night and let me know they were available on level up.
