Pet peeves: The return (Part 1)

i bought FF1 pixel remaster and it gives me nostalgia for a game i never played in my life

Had the exact same feel. I played it last week and genuinely really enjoyed it. It feels old but is also surprisingly accessible and wholesome.

What team did you roll with?

I’m ploughing through 2 at the moment. The pixel remasters have made me commit to playing through each numbered entry in the series (not you 11) in sequence like an absolute lunatic.

I miss my old phone games from the era before big money gacha and chinese shovelware; fun and interesting platformers and rpgs resembling mid 90’s PC and SNES games.

I just picked warrior - thief - white mage - black mage

I’ve only had time to go through the intro so far, mind. But yes it’s fun. It’s also my first FF game outside of 14.

Absolute mad man going for the oldest entry in the series first. Bless you brother

Well I’m not picking 15, I don’t like the modern setting, lol.

CHHAAAOOS :rage:

no no thats a new 1 remaster i think

Picking a Final Fantasy game to start is a real tough one. Because modern sure doesn’t mean good in this series. 15 is not a bad game necessarily, but I’d never recommend it to someone who isn’t used to the series being unnecessarily convoluted.

The thing I really loved about the first 1 is how much it felt like D&D and that very pure RPG experience as opposed to the more story focused rail roads (which I love) that come later.

If it final fantasy why is there 15 doe?

I love story, too. After all it’s what made me love 14!

Can’t wait to try the others after 1 though. Cheap games good.

They’ve only released the first 3 so far, right? Of the old pixel ones I’m only interested in 4, 6 and maybe 5. Though since I’m currently going through Vagrant Story via emulator, I might as well just :pirate_flag: these 3 too.

I’m finding 2 to be a bit of a bumpy ride, although the framing of the story and atmosphere is a massive improvement. But once you hit 4 you hit the golden age of the JRPG, which lasts for a good while.

Where Final Fantasy tails off is a debate that rages on to this day.

Yeah they’re staggering the last 3 because they’re the more popular ones and would overshadow the less popular first entries.

ahhh dude matoya’s cave is in here too?? even the music!!

hate the setting
love the bromance
love the soundtrack
love the villain

15’s an odd one but it was my first outside the mmo and it has a strange place in my heart and a fondness for ardyn as a villain. im playing through zodiac age atm. combat systems funky but its fun to see the source material for the ivalice raids

15 has probably the highest high that I’ve had in a Final Fantasy. It hit me SUPER hard in the feels towards the end.

Just wish it hadn’t been so unnecessarily complicated in it’s setting and story tbh, I thought they’d learned their lesson from 13 but apparently not.

Just hope Yoshi P can bring 16 home.

beat up a pirate captain’s crew and get his ship lmao

A muscular RPG if there ever was one.

Think you’re missing out on decent FFs with that approach. 7(+7R) notably.

I like how that’s also ā€œsecretlyā€ a final fantasy game in disguise.
