Stormwords generally been fine for rp, the meme on that is really overdone and honestly spiteful at times. though the Dracthyr with giant growth is a bit needless.
Far too many half elves as well but that doesn’t really impact in the overall enjoyment it just becomes ‘why though’ moment since most of them don’t do or add anything via it.
I don’t know how people are spotting AI but then I admittedly am one of those anti trp weirdos who barely bothers reading them.
I will hug someone who settles for a short, sweet less-than-paragraph emote rather than an add-on extended, three-paragraph purple-prose block that is hard to parse and ends up being deeply unsatisfying.
That is also usually how I end up being like “Nah, my emotes are probably fine” since, usually its late, people also want to relax, and don’t want to read an entire novel on the spot about me sipping my ale
Don’t think there’s really any problem with people making elaborate emotes under most circumstances. Mine range from a sentence to multi-paragraph depending on what’s needed and whether I feel like being flowery + descriptive.
Mobile ads where the skip and close buttons are so tiny that one frequently misclicks them and goes to the download page should be illegal. Put a deadzone around it or something, or just force them to make the close button bigger.
My fingers are pretty dainty all things considered, yet I still have problems with it. I can’t imagine trying to close them with the big meaty thick’uns that some people have.
There was a guy in swtor who prosed so much that the simple act of -looking- at you took ten minutes and 4 full chat cycles. Worryingly many in a prominent Sith house guild considered him a good RPer.
I’ve neither the money nor contacts to get any art done but that’s one opinion, I guess. Still not gonna clog my profiles with AI generated pictures, though.
I’m with you on this and I take the “read the room” kind of approach. If a person/group keep their emotew concise, i will match that. If they prefer to get descriptive and want to paint a picture, I will do that too. It also depends on the situation, sometimes we really do need to get about moving the plot and the prose has to be cut.
I don’t wanna sound like I’m lecturing to you 'cos that’s not the intention, but I’m just using your post to jump off of to talk about it in general.
It is admittedly harder if you don’t use social media, but there’s a lot of artists out there where the sole contact you need is “hey I’d like to commission you for this”. Some of them straight up have online forms you just fill in, so no initial contact needed - chances are they’ll reach out first, to clarify and finalise the order.
If you’re after full colour full body full background it might cost a pretty penny (as it should, artists deserve to get paid!) but there’s definitely more “reasonable” stuff out there - pencil sketches, half busts, that sorta thing. The full colour/full body/no background art I got of Elly was like £80 or something. I don’t wanna diminish that it is a fair chunk of change, but there’s definitely cheaper options too.
There’s plenty of subreddits out there with artists posting their stuff, but one that I’ve found consistently decent is the D&D subreddit - it’s packed with people showing off the character art they either made themselves or paid someone else to make who they then credit (and comes with a ‘No AI’ rule). Giving that a scroll will give you plenty of artists who, since they’re already doing D&D art, will likely be just as good at WoW character art. The person I commissioned for my book cover (https://bsky.app/profile/thatzombiecat.bsky.social, she was great, highly recommend!) I discovered simply by seeing them post some Rogue Trader art on the RT subreddit.
Another option is finding one artist you like on twitter/bluesky/whatever and then seeing who that artist follows, and branching out from there. They all follow each other back and retweet each other’s stuff. Very communal backscratching.
Catapulting off that theres also sites out there outside of social media that are dedicated to commissioners and artists looking for work/work to be done. Artists&Clients and Vgen both come to mind for being relatively reputable. Found some good ones on both.
Though this is till argubly one of the easiest I guess if you follow a lot of artists. Got a comm back from one there today that couldnt have been easier to deal with.
My Pet Hate is when people say “Oh, but that’s too expensive!”
Well… yeah? If you want a Super Shiny piece of art, from an artist who has been practicing for years and has such high demand they can afford to take a handful of coms a month, sure? They deserve to be compensated for their skills! It’s still a job! And there likely will be cheaper options, so folks Not managing their expectations (not anyone here, just a General gesture) is entirely a Them problem tbqh.
And A.I slop is like someone stealing a bunch of food off someone else, mashing it together, and calling it a meal/themselves a chef… SMH.
I wouldn’t ever suggest this to people who aren’t already friends/associate with artists, but I have seen fanfic-art trades crop up before, so stretch those writing fingers and get to putting a dent in the top WoW fics all being Sylvanas x Jaina…
