Oh nice, a new thread.
With a good few years now. With the mounts introduced in path of fire. The gryphon needs height to be able to fly some distance which limits it but the Skyscale (A smol dragon basically) has as close to true flight as the game has. The mount gets fatigued at altiude but mastery’s reduce it and lets you restore the fatigue by clinging to walls and launching off them. Which itself makes another mount redundant.
That’s a shame. I always saw lack of flying as a feature of GW2, not a bug.
I guess there’s still LOTRO.
I agree. I dont mind the ground mounts. They have some beautiful interactions with physics and indeed the best mount physics ive seen with how they handle turns, sudden stops and starts and interaction with the environment itself. But flying has basically removed much of the need of exploration. Trivialised vistas. Some jumping puzzles where even with mount disabled areas you can still cheat it. Its a genuine shame and why i still try and map complete on foot.
It was harder with the Secrets of the Obscure expansion however because the map design was designed around this mount and flying.
For the HoI 4 players among us:
Against all odds I have managed to persevere in the face of the German onslaught as the Netherlands , it is now 1942, and after putting their faith in Queen Wilhelmina, a reverse-invasion was launched as soon as Mustacheman went to Russia.
I also managed to get the German Empire puppet, so my borders seem pretty secure, only Britain has this weird thing where it keeps kicking me from and re-inviting me to the Allies. That is still manageable.
Now though, while my own borders are secure, I’m bogged down in the middle of Germany, while the Allies are slow with kicking Italy’s hind ( also no D-Day necessary because due to me holding on, Belgium, Luxembourg and France were not conquered either. Oh, and somehow the Spanish Republicans beat Franco instead of the other way around despite it being historical AI )
But now I hope to ask: Any good templates for attacking? Because I feel my defensive ones just get bogged down all too soon.
“Flying makes the threat less-”
Going to barge in RIGHT there and say no, it’s nothing to do with ‘threat’.
Wading through trash mobs, with Daze, with county sized aggro ranges is not THREAT, it is a CHORE. Especially with how damn FAST trash respawns.
If we aren’t bringing back Flightmasters whistle, you can pry flying out of a quest area to NOT wade through stupid effing trash mobs from my Cold Dead Hands
Meet you halfway. Let’s dig a shallow grave and drag ‘Daze’ behind the barn?
On a slightly more serious note, personally, the issue with flight comes down to what is lost in transit. Not the mobs, mind you, but the zones do tend to lose a lot of their “soul” when simply flown over. Traversing regions on the ground lets you appreciate the zone design a lot more than zooming around in the sky.
I think where spider town loses to elf town is in the fact that suramar had actual buildings that were rather densly packed together, with familiar designs of buildings. Kahet has small ziggurat huts and loads of open space, all of which kind of blends together with architecture of streets themselves.
We also just have way less content in spider city compared to Suramar.
The main questline part there is short and outside of the only other reasons to go there are raid, dungeons, delves and the odd worldquest.
The spider kingdom does have one massive + over suramar though.
No elves.
Also the spiders spray you with perfume, which is nice of them.

I swear, night elf ears in official art just keep getting shorter and shorter.
That’s a blood elf cosplaying a night elf…
