Does anyone know whatās up with Voice actor vs AI generated VA stuff rn?
Iām confused by the phrasing you used.
Thereās apparently some drama going in the international VA community about some people wanting to unionize to prevent AI from taking over their jobs, while others want to just work with the companies and not make a fuss over it.
Oh I know that, how you phrased what you were asking broke my brain somehow.
I believe the strike is on going and theyāre still after fair compensation and right for informed consent in regards to AI. What the industry has proposed to the strikers isnāt good enough, too many holes in proposals so it continues.

Thereās also an underlying thing going on with the American union SAG-AFTRA seemingly trying to monopolise the English speaking VA market? By abusing the very clearly valid protest against AI usage. While simultaneously making deals with at least one company using AI under current US laws (also known as āwhat law?ā)
At least it seems to be an issue with a certain gacha game -cough-genshin-cough-

Yeah im gonna be honest SOMEONE (Paimonās bloody Eng va) has been shooting the very valid efforts and concerns of the movement in the foot over her treatment of a colleague and its been gross to see that shes doubled down on the harrassment.
The ai concerns anyone can agree with but trying to sabotage non-american voice actors is just. icky.

is it better loras. the voice acting at least seems to be far more varied than different shades of american
the voice acting is charming in how low budget it feels. i think the game itself is a lot of fun, though i do miss the elemental reactions from genshin

this seems to have been happening across the hoyo games. two of zzzās characters had their vaās changed for two older characters with at least one being because she was part of the strike tho accepted it would happen. the other case isā¦weirder
China already has laws against AI usage in games
It being what it is thereās obviously still places that do not care but MHY is big enough to have government employees keeping an eye on things and you do not want anything in your game to trip those wires. Even if itās just a dubbing studio in a different country.
So theyāre actually pretty supportive of the whole rights for actors against rampant AI usage.
WW avoids it by simply hiring people who donāt happen to be American. 
And Genshin has started on that too.

The VA for Kinich got replaced. Additional info for that being that the original actor isnāt a union actor and was striking in solidarity and Kinich has been mute in the English dub in every patch after the initial Natlan patch.
The biggest issue is that the new actor openly announced he would be voicing Kinich in the future on twitter. Other replacements (in ZZZ) simply stayed anonymous so people couldnāt really target anyone.
Also Corina themself is a union member, even if only that weird half-way-membership they offer where you pay and the only real benefit is the union letting you work on union projects (US unions are weird, Iāve seen people argue that people outside the union shouldnāt expect the union to fight for their rights because otherwise āno one would join the unionā while said union has a 3000$ entry fee) and has been working the entire strike because they have to pay medical bills.
There do be spicy garlic mayo available. Maybe they had that?
