Obligatory need to mention the Swedish translation was so notoriously poor that Tolkien specifically mentioned it in his official guide to naming conventions in middle-earth for future translations.
We also did not receive a new one for 40 years, and when Silmarillion was to get translated, the criteria for it to be even considered was that the previous translator was not allowed to work on it at all.
Åke Ohlman, who was responsible for the translation took this very poorly and spent the rest of his life and academic career to try and ruin Tolkien’s reputation and Lord of the Rings. He wrote several articles and published a book claiming that Tolkien was secretly a N*zi black sorcerer and that the Tolkien Society had tried to burn down his house and murder him, and that they were a collection of literal blood-drinking elite that also practised witchcraft.

He went, to put it mildly, a bit mad.
And did not take criticism well.

Also really poor taste because blood libel is what the n*zis accused the jews of doing…

Yep, I am well aware.
By all accounts, he was a pretty unpleasant person. And he worked as a swedish proffesor in germany between 1941-1945, and only left and moved back to Sweden when the red army moved into the city he lived in.
He allegedly never openly adopted the ideology, but was said to be very opportunistic and cozied up with the brass and officials when needed.

Tried to move the xbox games files for the app from C drive (my OS drive) to my E drive (the gaming SSD) and, because I apparently offended SOME technological entity along the way, I now can’t play Deep Rock Galactic at all.
I think I tried to manually move the files, then uninstalled/deleted everything to do a fresh install.
Error message with 0x80270254 code.
Uninstall, reinstall to C drive.
Same problem.
Try and delete every single relevant (non registry) file, wipe clean, try reinstall again.
Nothing.
And I KNOW its not the drive or even the app, because the OTHER game I did this with works just fine, no issues at all, after being shunted to the E drive.
So I know nothing about the dark realm of Registry and at this point I might just ‘suffer’ through using Discord on my Xbox to play that particular game with friends…
Wow. Talk about spiteful.

The book itself is apparently quite insane, not just for the baseless slander, but in how baseless it is.
Like, as a direct example. According to Ohlman, one of the founders of the three K in the US was a dentist. So was the father to one of the founders of the swedish Tolkien Society. Which according to Ohlman means there is direct proof that they are of the same “breed” and therefore guilty by association of all that the three K is.
Okay, I’m reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Translation_of_The_Lord_of_the_Rings_into_Swedish
and yeah, I can see why Tolkien would criticize it. Just one thing I see from that article is that Ohlmarks misinterpreted Sindarin names as English and translated these incorrectly derived meanings into Swedish, ignoring Tolkien’s own English names given in the original text.
I suspect Tolkien would probably also hate Kistyakovsky and Muravyov’s Russian translation despite it being the most popular and fondly remembered; this translation, for example, translated Glorfindel as a Slavic name literally meaning “All-Glorious”, apparently misinterpreting the initial glor- as English glory (it actually means gold; Glorfindel means Golden Hair). And in some cases they changed Sindarin words (like miruvor and lembas) into some kind of Russian-Sindarin pidgin. The Sindarin sound th, which doesn’t exist in Russian, was also rendered in eight different ways.
And I can think of some other Russian translations that Tolkien would utterly demolish.

Found this interesting thing, a scrap of the original Warcraft 2 design documentation.
Plus a website with tons of other archeological scraps of the golden age of Blizzard, and an attached Discord server and Youtube channel.
Bill Roper (someone who often goes unsung for his role in the RTS-era of Warcraft) summarises the appeal of Warcraft 3 in quite a good sentence here:

you dont need to put spaces in your links if you’re already formatting them that way
i spent 5 minutes thinking i had a stroke before i realised the url was wrong
I’ve tried to do it, adding the hyphens and so on, but it isn’t working for me, for some reason.

Just surround the links with `, don’t need trust levels to do it.
It’s not a ’ it’s a `. Anglo keyboards have it to the left of the 1 key.

Mildly interesting that Alterac was meant to be flyer-focused. I guess it makes some sense (mountainous) but I don’t think it’s the sort of thing that ever got carried further forwards while the rest of it basically was.
Though I guess Alterac getting annihilated didn’t help.
I appreciate that the Stromics are morons who can’t figure out magic though. Dumb heads.

It’s interesting how Khadgar here looks more like his modern incarnation than he did in TBC.
Well, in TBC he had a generic model. They gave him a unique one in WoD to better match the movie version.
Warcraft Adventures had some wacky designs compared to how things turned out with Warcraft 3 going forwards. Nothing beats this shot of Gul’Dan, however. I can only theorise that he is witnessing Thrall being conceived, or something.
