I neglect Sera every playthrough.
Take Vivienne around just so Blackwall can lay the verbal SMACKDOWN on her when she speaks up about him anytime in banter, itâs a god-damn joy to watch.
Edit: Agree about Varric, he really ties in well with Blackwall especially since both are âFree Marchersâ, their jousting conversations are incredible pieces of little worldbuilding.
Based. (I have never played this game but they are not Zanik the Cave Goblin so I approve.)
Itâs the speech pattern as well as her general design - if you told me she was 15 I would have no trouble believing you. A lady being small or immature wouldnât bother me but the vibe to me with both how sheâs presented just makes me think of a teenager
In this context, literally - her concept art has her tan or olive-skinned (makes sense for a character who spends a lot of time outdoors, especially in France-ish Val Royeaux) but in-game sheâs as white as the driven snow.
Itâs a consistent problem in game characters, to the point where itâs a running âjokeâ among BIPOC designers that in concepting you have to make the character as dark-skinned as possible because every time they go through editing they will lighten them a few shades.
Sera wishes she could hold a candle to Zanik

The Official Loras Guide to Ranking Dragon Age Inquisition Companions:
SS-Tier - Solas
S-Tier - Varric, Dorian
A-Tier - Cassandra, Cole, Iron Bull
B-Tier - Blackwall
C-Tier - Sera, Vivienne
Sera had a lot of potential that was wasted/misused; Vivienne is a bootlicker and we do not stan.
Iâd bump the Bull up at least one tier but this is mostly good
Unforgiveable B-tier rating right there.
Sera and Yâshtola have the same voice actor.
I do her personal quest until she messes up so bad you get to kick her out of the inquisition and she has no retort because she is entirely in the wrong.
I do like Iron Bull and I bring him along for a lot of quests (competing with Cassandra), but heâs not stand-out in the same way as others for me. I like that the big qunari himboâwho gets adorably excited about dragonsâis actually a sharp/cunning espionage expert roughly on par with Leliana in his own way.
Blackwall is just⌠fine but boring imho. Like, heâs okay, but I donât think he really brings much to the cast.
Donât underestimate the value that a tragic broody dilf brings to the table
Blackwallâs trouble is that if you donât already like him he doesnât have any further depth shown - either you bring him along and you get all his story (which is very genuinely interesting) or you bench him initially and never see a reason to look further.
Varric - Blackwall banter about following jousting as if itâs a competitive sport similar to football alone makes it worth it
Iâd argue this is an issue for all of Inquisitionâs companion stories tbh, thereâs so many who have interesting stories that you can just entirely miss if you donât bring them out 24/7.
And deeply different characterisation.
Sera just annoys me. I want to bite her.
Radahn is far easier than some of the other bosses in Caelid.
Nearly beat the man with none of the summons (didnât realise they WERE summons until iâd clicked a few of them as I was dodging arrows)
Supposedly, Blackwall has really sweet romance moments in Trespasser regardless of how you went with his character.
Actually, even non-romance, his Trespasser appearance is very nice for him.
Sera: has a righteous cause and interesting story potential, then they packaged and presented her in the most obnoxious personality possible
Thanks! It wasnât even something I noticed, and you shed light on a bias blind spot of mine that Iâll make sure to notice better in the future.
Before I continue my incoming big list, I actually quite like Sera!
Sure, she can be incredibly annoying at times, and I am a bit sad that gay fem-Inquisitor has rather weak choices for romances(Sera and Josie).
But once you get to know the character enough that she opens up(both non-romance and romance) she is actually pretty good in my opinion as far characters go.
