In the vaguest sense possible:

Picture Avatar: The Last Airbender, but it’s industrial revolution era Tsarist Russia (and also Capitalist Amsterdam)

I can (and will) write a more detailed essay about the setting

That’s what I chose, too. Seems fitting and something he himself would have wanted.

Children of Time. Award winning science fiction novel.

A race for survival among the stars… Humanity’s last survivors escaped earth’s ruins to find a new home. But when they find it, can their desperation overcome its dangers?

WHO WILL INHERIT THIS NEW EARTH?

The last remnants of the human race left a dying Earth, desperate to find a new home among the stars. Following in the footsteps of their ancestors, they discover the greatest treasure of the past age - a world terraformed and prepared for human life.

But all is not right in this new Eden. In the long years since the planet was abandoned, the work of its architects has borne disastrous fruit. The planet is not waiting for them, pristine and unoccupied. New masters have turned it from a refuge into mankind’s worst nightmare.

Now two civilizations are on a collision course, both testing the boundaries of what they will do to survive. As the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, who are the true heirs of this new Earth

Never not a good moment to lay into Discworld. If you’ve already tackled some of them you might enjoy the Science of Discworld Series. They’re constructed with a story unfolding every other chapter with the inbetween chapters focusing on all sorts of things like evolution, historical figures, hyphotehtical time travel, godhood etc based on our own world revolving around the plot on Discworld using real life scientific observations (albeit with some today now dated but not necessarily entirely incorrect sources since it was written in 2005).

The first two of the three however are about 85% discource in modern sciences and 15% Discworld story while the third one, Darwin’s Watch, has a nice even 50-50 mix (and is also probably my favourite book in the entire Discworld Franchise).

Speaking of I read the Kyoshi books on holiday. They’re okay, nothing groundbreaking but if you want an injection of Avatar lore it’s fun enough. You got some neat worldbuilding tidbits here and there. Was surprised that

Rangi, the love interest, survived the entire thing. I was expecting her to die during the second book but she stuck it out the whole time. Good for her.

Apparently there’s a recently released Yangchen (the previous Air avatar before Aang) novel too but I haven’t read that yet.

Iron Widow.

A mecha reimagining of the rise of the Chinese Empress Wu Zetian set in the nation of Huaxia, a futuristic reinterpretation of Medieval China.

EDIT: Leo just bit me, he’s also telling you to go read Iron Widow.

Doing Emerald Graves before I proceed with the main story. The description makes it sound like the finale.

My current peeve: Not having an option to just skip ahead by one week.

It’s got a bunch of story connections, if I remember where things are at correctly.

My next main quest is to stop Corypheus from reaching an Eluvian. The quest description says we’re going to face down his forces one last time.

Sounds pretty final. But my friend tipped me off that I should do Cullen’s companion quest first which is in the Emerald Graves.

“I’ve heard this one before.”

“Are you sure? Yes/No”

woosh

Can I take your weather? It got awfully cold here overnight. Also rain arrived and forced us to cancel another astronomy night.
