Pet peeves: The return (Part 4)

Yeah, people (myself included) like to point out Goth Mom Shelob when it comes to the abjectly perverse take on the setting Shadow of Mordor commits, but that reveal up there is just chefs kiss

I’m fine, I’m kind of desensitized to it after hearing some fanfiction premises at the Tolkien con.

(no but seriously, Cao Cao was Chinese and Samurai are Japanese)

that’s exactly what makes it even better

Not even the combined force of Alex Kurtzman and Zack Snyder could come up with such a horrible crap-take on an established franchise. Like I get the gameplay is fun but how on god’s green earth was any of the writing approved?

I’m not really the one to talk about it because I have never played Shadows of Mordor, it was just my nerdy weebery that kicked in there because oh god.

I played it.
Sexy Shelob destroyed part of my soul.
Why use her instead of a more fitting character!
You don’t need to sexify a spider to make the game work.

Any works in a universe not by its original creator, even if commercial, can simply be viewed through the lens of fanfiction.

Mentally treat it as equivalent in importance to

A Hobbit’s Ninja Way
When Naruto is transported by Orochimaru’s jutsu to Middle Earth, he meets Frodo Baggins, and gets pulled into the quest to destroy the One Ring - and perhaps find love along the way. [M/M, angst]

it’s much easier.

and also its original creator! canon is fake!

Casual reminder aswell that shadow of mordor also had a straight up antisemitic stereotype in its core gameplay/model until they were forced to change it.

(for context, the orc in the ingame shop had the full package which makes Rowlings goblins look bad, and also did the stereotypical money grubbing hand movement)

Pretty sure they invented those two to exist -next- to the Nine
so they would actually be the Eleven
then again, this is the game that turned Isildur and Helm Hammerhand into Ringwraiths aswell.

Eltariel being an irredeemable censored did not help either with how she treated Talion, and not even the fact Laura Bailey voiced her can remedy that, as much as I love Laura’s voice :frowning:

After searching, no they are part of the nine. Or well, they kill two other nazgul and take their place.

Shadow of War Spoilers

" Riya and Yuka, better known as the Nazgûl Sisters, are antagonists in the 2017 videogame Middle-earth: Shadow of War, being the main antagonists in the story expansion, The Blade of Galadriel.

Origin

They were once Daughters to Emperor Sagong of a distant land in the farthest east of Middle-earth called the Kingdom of Shen. The sisters were sent to Mordor in order to recover the Ring of Power. They were able to slay two NazgĂ»l and take their rings and succeeded in defeating the Nazgul’s armies. Returning to their father, the rings soon influenced and corrupted them, and they eventually killed him. The sisters then took his throne, and eventually, Sauron brought them to his service, who led them back to Mordor to become his servants.

As Nazgûl

After Sauron and Celebrimbor’s battle, which ended with both trapped in the form of a flaming eyeball and the Witch-king defeated by Talion, the Sisters took the advantage of their masters’ weakened state by attempting to take Mordor over themselves. After their defeat at the hands of Talion and Eltariel, they returned to serve Sauron.

(Worth pointing out that there is no Kingdom of Sheng or Emperor in any of tolkiens works or letters)
