Pet peeves: The return (Part 4)

Very valid, especially if you’re new to it (LARP combat by and large is very safe but like any contact sport there are risks).

Also LARP-safe arrows are like £7 each it’s not cheap

Money isn’t an issue, it’s the social aspect that worries me the most. I have no idea if I’d fit in. I’m also feeling crippling anxiety coming up with a character concept.

Me brainstorming for the Silmarillion LARP:

“Okay, the only thing I’m certain about is that I probably want my character to be of the Sindar, and in the pro-openness movement. But… archer or civilian? And if the latter, what kind of civilian? The GM thinks I’d make a good Nimloth, but I think I’d be more comfortable playing an original character. Do I even want to be in Doriath, or maybe be staying in Nargothrond? And there’s this friend who wants his character to have some kind of relation to mine, but he’s into Noldor and is suggesting wacky ideas like a half-Noldor half-Sindar brother and sister… Argh this is hard.”

Me brainstorming for the Warcraft LARP:

— Lintian.
— Maybe we should think this over? They have such a variety of possible roles, it’d be a good chance to flex our creative muscles and come up with something new—
— I’m. Playing. Lintian.

Wouldn’t be Friday without an end-of-week pet peeve.

I have at this point written no less than three short stories related to RP, and I can’t really post them on the AA because someone (I have to presume the pre-historic Alice of Argent Dawn) snagged the name on the site. Moderators are no help.

Wouldn’t be Friday without an end-of-week delight either!

Finally replaced my temporary keyboard solution with a proper new one, and new mouse to treat myself. Both are insanely weird to try and get used to; the buttons are suddenly no longer intuitively placed and have a new feel to them. But I’m glad for the upgrades.

Make Alice-Surname on there, and petition for a name change to Alice in the meantime.

Oooh, very nice. Red hair and you could pass for Merida!

I’d have to hit the gym first and ride a horse and I could pass for one of the Rohirrim atleast, if I let a glorious beard grow…

please be patient while the terrible forum infrastructure finally updates

Thanks, now I know what pictures I’d send to my hypothetical LARP tailor as reference!

PSA for FFXIV roleplayers: if the rapid change in time of day annoys you in RP, install the Dalamud plugin “Weatherman” and set the setting “Global time control” to “Real world time”.

(Others Dalamud plugins I personally use in RP are ChatAlerts, Chat Bubbles, Orchestrion Plugin, and two by yours truly: Snooper and Roleplay Profiles.)

Having it in real time is generally preferable, but I also appreciate how Lotro does its time with a set in-game rotation of certain things like early hours/dawn, morning, noon, afternoon, evening, night etc.

FFXIV’s one just seemed/seems so all over the place.

Its every 20 minutes.

That’s how long you have to wait for rare nodes to spawn (they spawn at an exact time every “day”)
