Pet peeves: The return (Part 4)

Nah, you can’t gaslight me; I remember un-hollowing in DS1 in the Undead Burg as a new player, only to get invaded by some sweaty git with an endgame upgraded lightning weapon and getting eviscerated in seconds with not even a hope of fighting back.

It’s never fun invaders. I tried making a low level invasion character on DS1; I got the cleaver, plank shield, got corrupted to get the Egg Head mutation and went through the DLC as a level 10 to get the golem armour from Past Oolaciel.
Then the game only ever paired me with NG+ hosts.
Forced PVP linked to co-op is garbage, and I’mma gonna say it.

Made myself get up earlier today, 'cos I’m having to get up Stupid Early for work this week (yay for being on Keys for two weeks, so days AND nights…)

I do not rate Mornings. At all. They should be forbidden.
It really doesn’t help that the Brain Gremlins are out in full force. It’s too damn noisy in here today, and I am Tired of it all…

Edit: If there are pictures of Squeakers or Floofs, please share

I’d think it was a pit in the ground somewhere in Africa.

DS1 pvp is crap so I think we are in accord here. DS3 prioritizing pvp to select co-op players is crap (along with the instant estus and nigh-infinite stamina). Elden Ring forcing all pvp to only go to co-op hosts is crap because it’s a lose-lose scenario where people who want invasions to be fun get forced into creating the most disgusting one shot builds and people who just want to co-op with friends are forced to contend with the aforementioned one shot builds every 5-10 minutes when the invasion timer resets (and it counts from when the invasion started, not when it ends so you could daisy chain invaders infinitely).

DS2 pvp? Sublime. Supreme, even. I miss the actual police and sin system where you had a pretty high risk of being invaded by the boys in blue if you invaded others a lot instead of the horrendous “you may or may not end up in up partaking in a gank” system of DS3. And even if you did end up matched with more than one player in DS2, the phantom was prohibited from using estus just like yourself.

Soul memory is crap though.

Usually it’s way more “wing” like these days tho. One loot piñata at the entrance, wing 1, slightly more difficult wing 2 and then the last two.
With somewhat accidental roadblocks in between and sometimes a second piñata.

I didn’t even remember Kurog had a healing absorb until group size made it a bit more annoying to heal yesterday.

Fondest PvP memories I have from Dark souls is in DS2 doing Bell covenant. When it had more active players that was quite funny.

I do miss the Indictment system. Again, I never got to take part meaningfully in the games that had it, but it would be so much better than ERs super convoluted system (where you have to buy an item, AND activate said item, all without the game giving any sensible pointers)

Un-Peeve; finally getting to bully hard enemies because Im looking up their elemental weaknesses and tailoring my loadout every time.
Electric Mace vs Abductors when it’s raining on Mt Gelmir? Sublime.

The pure chaos of ds3’s gank city is unmatched tbh. 6 people, most of which on different teams, combined with just how much that one area after the Pontiff has going on. Good stuff.

DS1 is an instakill hellscape and Elden Ring suffers from both the lack of covenants as well as the bizarre way they made the multiplayer and invasions work, not to mention just the ridiculous tools they gave players (could you imagine RoB and dragon breaths a la elden ring in the older games’ PvP? It’d suck like hell, too)

DS2 and DS3 are the good stuff. Shame DS2 is bogged down by soul memory.

They really underutilized the environmental damage modifier system. It’s pretty much only: wet boosts lightning and stomps on fire

They could’ve done more with it.

Scarlet Nexus is so bizarre with its character interactions.
Just got done trying to kill a dude (I did not explain I had to do it because his future self from 50 years from now told me to) and his childhood friend-not-girlfriend was all “hey wanna go to the café so we can talk about how you tried to murder my not-boyfriend?” immediately afterwards, just a friendly meet up over tea and cakes to discuss the attempted murder

Shockingly, the chat did not go well.

When’s Baldurs Gate actually truly out?

August. So, another four months.

I thought it was, but too lazy to Google.
I want to play it.

I miss being a mad spirit invading into the post Pontiff chaos. Who’s side am I on? Depends.

Mad spirits were such a good addition fr, fantastic agents of chaos. And the aldrich faithful invaders generally just having a murder on for everyone in the area really kept things dynamic.

Pre ordered Jedi Survivor instead.

31st August is the official release date at the moment

I am Concerned about the lack of Dragonborn info though - they’re probably not going to be Fizban rules and that makes me sad

mods will fix it
