Loved his work since well before Critical Role (which I never got into bc I canât pay attention to it for the duration), so people just thinking heâs only CR related are funny, heâs done so much other than CR and heâs darn good at it.
Laughs in TotK, Morrowind, ESO and FFXIV raiding once new tiers out
Makes me glad I donât play WoW, canât imagine playing other games let alone MMOs in modern WoW, even if DF cut down on systems.
But thatâs also a hell of my own making being someone who always strived to get the most out of things, miss the days of just raidlogging for WoW
But too many releases in a short timeframe
Goals!
Heâs not, particularly, at least from what Iâve seen.
But thereâs a (vocal?) set of people who say he is, and Iâm guessing that part of the reason for that is Critical Roleâs popularity but also its fandom. (Over)enthusiastic fandom->Non-fans thinking theyâre cringe->Mercer is cringe.
⌠But what does it mean?
Voice goals, as in âwish I sounded like thatâ
In this case
Also could the people in TW dungeons please stop being asleep at their keyboards?
Sorry, no can do, very tired.
Critical Role fans can be incredibly cringe. Their worship of Mercer does turn me off of him, even if rationally I know itâs not his fault.
If you provide some examples, we can all shift uncomfortably in our seats along with you.
They feature quite a lot on r/RPGhorrorstories, with the CR brainrot giving them toxic expectations for DMs
People expecting & demanding their average DM to do everything Mercer does who is a professional VA and runs a campaign with other professional VAâs which is also streamed and has a steady amount of income for hosting it.
Itâs gross and weird. And takes away what is fun about D&D. I donât hate or blame CR for it(Infact CR has helped popularise D&D more in mainstream and to a further audience which is actually really cool) but some people have beenâŚvery obsessive about it in all the bad ways.
Iâve also read a couple of RPG horror stories where itâs the DM determined to be Matt Mercer, up to and including demanding that their group streams their games
People want to chase fame. Iâve seen and heard that there was a surge in DMâs asking for payment as well following CR. Usually with poor results for those who did pay.
also the Chronurgist wizard from his wildemount book is overpowered
very cringe
I only just learned that the Citadel Epilogue Mod was ported to Mass Effect Legendary Edition back in January!
Now I can play the game my way without backporting my saves to the original ME3 for the ending. AHEM + CEM would be a must-have combination for me if I were to ever replay the trilogy again.

Horribly sleepy and itâs not even 6pm.
Iâll be honest. That show is one of the biggest sources of the ***** Eating Crackers syndrome for me. Iâm not into it at all, but it inevitably comes up in D&D related discussions, and Iâm just sick of hearing for the umpteenth time about how theyâre releasing yet another tie-in product about their adventures that theyâre paid money to act out, or about what a genius DM Matt Mercer supposedly is.
I donât care. They like the show? Good for them. I just want them to leave me be with my quirky little elfgame hobby.
Listening to friends sharing some D&D stories can be fun occasionally, especially if it is a thing they are passionate about or it is a cool moment for them.
But I do not understand the point or interest in following an entire campaign such as CR without participating. Iâd rather just play D&D myself.
For a second I thought you were talking about the Citadel DLC and I was about to write six paragraphs on why the entire ME fanbase gaslit themselves into thinking itâs good content.
That mod seems neat though, what a rough ride that game was on launch.
